    Hello,

I tried searching for an answer, but couldn't find anything relevant.

Basically, my question is, is there a way to have a business address other than your home address?

I would like to start a home business, but I do not want to use my home address for safety reasons. Any ideas?

If you need a physical home address, go rent a box at a pack&ship store like the UPS Store (formerly Mailboxes Etc). Besides receiving mail there, you can also use their street address and have all packages from all carriers delivered there.

I can sort of understand the "ssafety reasons" part, but let's face it, if you had commercial property that you ran your business from, you's list that, wouldn't you? So why is that safer? SUre, your kids are not there, but you and your employees are.

But if you must, do as the above post says or get a PO box. Only downside with a PO box is you cannot receive shipments from anyone but the post office. I don;t know how much the mailboxetc thing is (they were bought out by UPS anyway, so you might not be able to accept any packeges but UPS packages there).

I know that a PO box is pretty cheap. Just get a small one and I think it's like under $30.00 per 6 months. Just get a small one. If you get any large packages, they will just leave a not to pick it up at the window.

The UPS store will accept packages from any carrier, not just UPS. The flyer from our local store says it costs businesses $23/month for this service.

Yes if you are very concerned with this your best bet would be to get a P.O. box. Cheap solution!

Actually, when getting a bos at one of the Mailboxes r Us kinds of places, you can use their street address, with your box being a "Suite", so you have it both ways. A "PO" box, with a street address.

Face it, selling with a PO Box as an address does not instill confidence with the customer. So, you're actully better off with the mail places, since you still can publish a "real" address.

Some companies verify your address by the billing address on your credit card. You may want to change your business card to match your new address.

Thanks for the very informative replies!

I like the fact that Mail Boxes Etc. gives you a suite address like...

    4321 Street Ave. Suite 123
    City, CA 90001

... instead of a Box address. I never knew that. I guess UPS Store caters to businesses better than USPS.

    Thanks again.

Personally, I prefer to USPS over UPS. Maybe it's because I'm located centrally in the US, but USPS (especially with Priority Mail) delivers much faster than UPS, and its cheaper.
