I'm new here and to the business, and I think I may be getting taken to the cleaners by a few suppliers. I run a company that sells all types of consumer products (cleaning, hardware, etc) and I have noticed that many of these suppliers have different discounts (prices) for different industries. Is this normal and if so, what is a typical discount I should expect. Basic discounts is it 40%, 50%, 60% off of MSRP? Please Help

My experience is that you should never have to pay over 30% of the wholesale cost, not retail cost. But it can be as low as 5% of wholesale, depending on the product.

This is pretty normal and I`m not so sure there is a standard because there are too many variables involved but it`s usually around 40%.A lot depends on the market value, supply and demand, etc and where your actually buying on the food chain. If your dealing with some companies that use bracket pricing or booking programs try haggling for better pricing, most are pretty lenient and willing to work with you especially if you already have a purchasing history.
