what auction sites do you use and how would you rate them?
    Pros and Cons :?:

Also has anybody else noticed the growing amount of new members on eBay while sites like Sell.com and Bidoutlet are stagnant?

Your thoughts and opinions greatly valued :D

    I have used:

    Yahoo Auctions
    Pro: cheap selling fees.
Con: not as much traffic & a lot of dead beat bidders.

    Sell.com
    Pro: free listings
    Con: low to no traffic

Ebay will continue to grow because even people that are not that internet savvy know of ebay. Ebay markets itself, they even have TV commercials.
One would think Yahoo has the resources to make a run at ebay, but they haven't marketed much.

But I agree that ebay is always going to be number one.

I always thought Nintendo was going to be number one.
Then the Sony Playstation came along.
I think this is a very good example of what is going on at ebay right now.
They know they are the biggest out there, and it makes them think that they are invincible.

Sorry for the thread hijack btw.

I dont think anyone or anything will "always" be the best or #1. If they become complacent and stop seeking improvements the competition will definitely smell blood and jump at their opportunity.

Which leads me to inquire to exactly why no other formidable auction site has stepped up and taken advantage of eBay's flaws; their exceedingly expensive fees in particular. Yahoo Auctions used to be a good place to go, but now it's filled with fraudulent sellers and deadbeat buyers alike. The registration process is ridiculously simple and even the most primitive of fraudsters will quickly realize how to set up dozens of sellers accounts. Until they wisen up and add a few more people to their fraud prevention staff it'll always be a very cutthroat auction site and they'll never challenge eBay.

It's only a matter of time before someone takes the initiative to openly challenge eBay, and I personally can't wait to see that day arrive.

I'm surprised big ol'Microsoft a.k.a. Bill Gates, hasn't stepped up to the plate and taken a swing at eBay. He has the money to do it.

Ubid.com did away with their seller's program about a year ago now. Everything you buy there now is Ubid direct, not from independent sellers. It'd be great to sell there just because often times their products go for MUCH higher than eBay prices.

I'd say eBay eBay ebay since their traffic rocks and neither sellers nor buyers wouldn't trust other auction sites. It seems in the next 10 years there is no place to go except eBay..

    Samuel 17 49-50
49 And David put his hand into his bag and took from it a stone and slung {it,} and struck the Philistine on his forehead. And the stone sank into his forehead, so that he fell on his face to the ground. 50 Thus David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and he struck the Philistine and killed him; but there was no sword in David's hand.

I honestly believe that Ebay will fall, perhaps not this year, but soon. Their aleination of the "little guys" will be their downfall eventually.

eBay's current buyers and sellers alike would benefit from another large auction site stepping forth and challenging eBay's reign as auction champion. Competition is what drives the marketplace, and eBay really doesnt have any competition so they can do pretty much as they please and risk very little in the process. They have raised their prices each and every year and I dont look for it to stop until they have to. The name of the game is money and right now they are rolling in it.

As for looking 10 years out, that's eternity. eBay hasnt even been around for 10 years itself, and it gained it's popularity in just under 2 years. If some other high-powered, secure, profitable auction site stepped forward it could overcome eBay within 1-2 years. At the very least they would force eBay to reconsider their fees and their ridiculously exhaustive and restrictive rules and regulations.

I love eBay, but I love money more, and I'll go wherever I can make the most money.

In my opinion eBay won't make it past next decade. If they don't come up with new regulations as to what quantities new sellers can list, there will be more and more spammers listing items for rediculously low prices and therefore bringing down prices of legit sellers, which in turn will cause real sellers to lose a lot of money. Same goes with buyers.

Didn't eBay ever think about banning hotmail, yahoo, excite, etc. accounts and only allowing "real" e-mail accounts to be created?
