How to send a refund through paypal

if i have an item being returned through one of my ebay auctions, and i am giving the customer a refund, how do i send them the refund through paypal. The refund will be for the price of the item but not for the shipping they have paid. Is there a way on paypal to refund part of the payment that i recieved from the customer or is it an all or nothing sort of thing? If it is all or nothing is the only way to send the refund to just send funds through paypal like normal?
