They are out there, but you need to avoid using middlemen as there are many sites that represent themselves as wholesalers, but are actually middlemen. Most of the geniune wholesalers will not advertise on the Internet and the ones you see advertised are actually middlemen.

Actually, there are a number of very legitimate wholesalers on the net. I'm not saying there are not a lot of either "brokers" who are indeed middlemen, or dropship dealers who simply sell to you, then go to their source and have them ship directly to you.
Part of finding the true manufacturers, importers and distributors is something that takes time and experience. There are actually many real wholesalers, with warehouses or storefronts, who still buy from a distributor. The real trick is getting to this top tier of manufacturers, importers and distributors.
Most of these DO NOT dropship. They have the best prices, but they also have the highest minimum order amounts, the toughest qualification standards and in most cases will not sell to internet only sellers.
To get up with these people, you need to attend trade shows related to the field you wish to sell in.
But, you are a little-bittie newbie. They are not interested in you. So, you have to start at the bottom of the pile, making a few bucks, hopefully, buying wherever you can find a product. I am not talking to you personally, it's just how it is. You're not going to get hooked up with a Sony or Nike or HP distributor who sells by the truckload and get them to dropship one of something for you.
So, you take your chances. You will probably get stuck a few times. It's all part of learning.
It's amazing how people can work in a field for years, really know some people to buy from and come to the net and set up a store. And then just make a living. With years of experience in the field they as working in.
And then many others come to sites like this with no experience and ask for directions on how to make it on-line. There is no magic formula. And, regardless of what you might see or hear to the contrary, experience is still the best teacher. -
Pete gave some very solid advice.
