Every year right before the holidays, our company receives an unusually high amount of buyers trying to scam us out of money and merchandise. There is a consistent pattern every year. I would like to hear from others about your experience. Maybe we can compare notes. Hopefully we can help each other.
1. These buyers always make mistakes while placing the order. They want several changes made to the order prior to shipment.
2. They demand the goods be shipped fast. Fast to these buyers means they want to receive the goods in less than one week but they don't tell you this until after they pay for the order.
4. A couple of days before the order is delivered, suddenly the buyer starts screaming they want to cancel the order- they claim it took too long to receive it. They make threats and demand a refund (knowing the goods are in transit). They might mention big words like the fbi, fraud, lawyer ect... Keep in mind the shipment is in transit and the order is not late! You start feeling you've been Set up! Then they initiate a fraudulent chargeback (through paypal, credit card and even bank wire) Funds are reversed out of your account and your goods are on their doorstep.
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of attempted frauds by buyers. You would think it would be the seller you needed to worry about....
Anyone else have similar stories to share? I would like to compare notes. Names ect?

oh..... i am so afraid of this too...
well... it never happen to me...
becuz i am only selling nail supplies...
which only cost like a bug or two for each product....
well.... i got scammed...
da seller returned 50% of the payment to me..
but it's a new paypal acc...
have to wait for a few days for verifications...
i am afraid that the seller will ask paypal for refunds...
not sure whether this work or not...
since i have never dealed with the refunds~~ -
Sometimes it helps to do some profiling...engage with the buyer, try get a 'feel' for him or her...You can only do some research on your buyer by using google or using the search forum.
If you think they may be someone who can fraud you, use escrow instead. Or you could try get some references of them dealing with other suppliers...
I would be more risk-aware with bigger deals...its bound to happen from time to time with smaller deals, nothing you can do. -
Also wanted to add, there would be a high likelihood that they would be eBay sellers...
so trying to get their user-id and looking up their feedback could also help...
or you could do the transaction over ebay, and paypal puts a higher priority of ebay transactions than paypal onlin transactions (i think, correct me if im wrong). -

sorry to hear you had this problem. I found myself having to file a charge back and had a chargeback filed against me. When i filed, i had to wait 30 days for the other person to reply and then the decision of the claim was settled...nine times out of ten, settled in my favor but the other account was empty so i was left with nothing so i had to file claim against paypal with my credit card company or bank to get my money back.
Whne someone filed against me, all i had to do was show tracking number that something was on the way and they pretty much left me alone. -

Yes, we have always won our chargeback disputes by providing tracking numbers or through an atty.
We got burned once this year by accidentally shipping a re-order to a customer prior to receiving his bank wire. He received the goods (proof of delivery on file) but he won't return our emails requesting payment.
We are not UK based, and unable to file a claim through the UK Justice department.
Anyone know this person?
