There are lots of people that say they are not worth it...
However, I disagree...Since opening my store my earnings have gone from strength to strength and I am also managing to reduce my listing fees (shop option) which again raises my profits. -
I have an ebay store, and they have their advantages/disadvantages. It is WAY cheaper to list items in your store, but the downside is that those listings don't show up in regular search results. The trick is to list a few items in the regular search results and put a link to your ebay store in your auction. Thats the easiest way to get exposure to the products in your store.

Similar principle to the loss leader approach most retailers use to get footfall into their shops..works well as well

what i do is...
post a listing in BUY IT NOW format... but need to be pre-approval...
and add the link to the same item in STORE INVENTORY format...
so that my products show on searching.. -
If you are are using dropship or wholesale products on ebay it is better to have a site that you can also send traffic to. You can market the site with your invoices to get repeat clients or use about us information or follow up with your customers by email from your store address, etc.
You dont have to use the ebay stores for this...you could use Yahoo Stores, Zen Cart, osCommerce, CRE loaded, X-Cart, Miva Merchant, VPASP, Monster Commerce, etc.....
....in short any platform that you can think of should be fine.
So...IMHO i think you can add value to your biz with a store while selling on ebay..but that store does not have to be prostores or specific to ebay to work like it is needed to work for you. -
I also use the loss leader approach for my auctions to bring in more traffic to my store. Works well. Also why not try it out, if I remember correctly isn't the first month free?

Firstly, I would just sell products on ebay normally....build up feedback, get some loyal customers. And if the business is doing really good then I would move on to opening a store. I dont know if it costs to open a store but i assume so?

What kind of wholesale source uses yahoo photos as their catalog? I would stay away. Also, this section is on if the ebay store is worth the expense and in general a good ecommerce tool.....so it would be better to list why you like the ebay store for selling your products from the source u use.

Hi:
I operate an Ebay Store and I think it's a great value for the money. The store I use costs $15/month + a small listing fee for each store item. You can pretty much design the store as you please. Ebay spends $1,000's of dollars advertising on Google keywords, which drives quality traffic to your store. You can add specific keywords to your store (via store manager) to make it search engine friendly. Your store listigs do show up when somebody searches for a like item through Ebay search (the listings show up under regular auction/fixed price listings). You can show a potential buyer, via your feedback, that you are legitimate retailer.
One of the best features of using an Ebay store is the Traffic Reports. You can see exactally where web visitors are coming from and the specific keywords that drove traffic to your store. Ebay offers tons of resources to help your business grow and be successful. It's all a matter of reading and being dedicated to running your shop.
Just my 2 cents...
Jon
