Australian Customs and Branded Clothing

    Hi everyone,

Recently I have been getting a lot of feedback from different suppliers that they are no longer sending branded goods (such as RL) to Australia. Word is that customs have been getting strict with branded goods entering the country without paperwork.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Are other countries in the same situation? Have the Copyright owners suddenly taken a stand?

    Any comments would be appreciated.

I can confirm that this is the case for Australia.

In late 2004 I was shipping Blue Cult and some other branded jeans to customers in Australia. Invariably, the parcels were stopped and on occasion there were issues.

    What helps to alleviate this:

    - Certificate of Origin (you can find this paperwork through a search on UPS.com). If the product is of US Origin, have it notarized with your local Chamber of Commerce.

    - Make sure that your invoices are clear and concise. Place 2 copies inside the parcel, 3 copies outside (you can never have too many) 8)

    - Ship in several smaller shipments a few days / week apart. (this really seemed to help).

    - Make sure what you are shipping is authentic. Period.

This has worked for me - and AU was one of my biggest export countries.

    Hope this helps,

    Diana
