How do I find a legit wholesaler?

While my focus has been on electronics, I would imagine that this is probably more or less the same for all merchandise.
I've looked around the web and hit up alibaba.com, but have only found a couple of possible legit wholesalers out there. Are they really that hard to come by? Where do I find the legit ones? -
They are out there. I have quite a few that I have found to be very honest. You just have to do your homework.

Hi, We have been in business over 50 years selling products to
paint and hardware stores. We have over 5,000 items from over 70
name brand companies. We are a two step distributor, buying direct from
the manufacturer in large quantities and selling to retail stores.
I would be interested to talk to you to see if their are items we carry you
would want to have drop shipped to your customers.
Send me an email to patrick@see-bee.com -
Hi,
Now don't jump down my throat people!!!! (I've seen some other self-serving posts get ruthlessly anhilated ... lol)
This is not one of those ... but I am going to suggest an honest distributer who I no longer use because I have given my business to my wife and she prefers selling clothes and shoes to electronics. (We are FieldsofDeals on e-bay so you can see what I mean ...). I started Fields of Deals about 4 years ago when I thought my reg job was going to be downsized but it never happened so I had to refocus on staying employed in corporate America!
I hold BrandyWine Liquidators (Bruce, owner) in the highest regard because we have had good deals
and bad deals - and he has ALWAYS stood by his word ... even on one particular "handshake" (wire transfer) deal
that went awry. They are based in Florida.
Every once in awhile a gem comes through his website. Just know your market. Good items usually don't last
a day so you have to keep on it. I want to promote him because we no longer use him but I think he is one of the good ones. He helped us (me) get going and had he not been so honest could have ended my business venture before it started. So I do owe him.

There are TONS of wholesalers on the internet, just search google. HOWEVER, to find some that are 100% legit and not a bunch of fooking middlemen cashing in on the ebay craze with pretend wholesale prices, you need to go to a TRADESHOW!!
Alibaba has become a snake pit for scammers. Yeah, you might find a few you can trust but the odds are against you.
-
There are a lot of different types of good wholesalers. The most you can profit from are the ones where you can buy pallets of goods from because you are getting bulk at good prices. Generally many middlemen will buy bulk from the wholesalers and then act as a single wholesaler by selling the bulk goods one by one, giving a markup. So as you it depends if you are loooking for best price, convenient of dropshipping, etc.
-
if everything goes well ,then he(she)is legit,if any trouble happened ,he(she)turns to be scammer.difficultly
-
There are lots of legit Wholesalers, however there Wholesale Prices sometimes are not as appealing as the illegit Wholesalers are. Basically if you can call and talk to someone they are usually legit, if you can not take a hint!

this is a very tough and touchy subject...
there are plenty of great wholesalers out there but noone wants to share their sources, so asking for a name of real legit source you will never get it .
you will have to do your homework and its quite a challenge, how can you tell if a source is legitimate you cannot , you can ask around but even then its a difficult task some people might say yes they are great even though in case of apparel the supplier is selling counterfeit items . this is done by the referers because a they do not know b they do not care.
selling counterfeits will get you in huge trouble. and its will not may.
some things you may want to do is go to trade shows, go around network yourself see if there are products you want. sources.
build capital , many times from a legit wholesaler with good prices you are going to have to buy bulk in the thousands of dollars. ,
learn the business this is so important , if you want to try ebay etc etc you must must learn everything you can , read the boards , take the classes, the books , you might want to start selling small priced items first to learn how exactly it is to be a seller,
know the fees , know the market, research anything you want to sell thoroughly see how much they sell on ebay or amazon or overstock etc and see what you can get it for . then subtract all your expenses ebay fees paypal fees shipping fees , figure in also that you might not sell all your items , in overstock sales sometimes you too will have overstock . find an other outlet to get rid of your surplus. Knowing your buying price your price point , and all expenses will help you get a real grasp on what you will make . and remember you make your money on the buy.
think this is real important when trying to find a source , people often go with their heart not their brain when first starting of. Someone tells you how they can get you a great deal on ipods , high end clothing or whatever you are looking to sell and you start thinking how great this is , i can pay my bills , my mortgage go on a trip, buy a car blah blah , people start only using their heart wishing hoping to believe what this person on the other end is the truth . big mistake you wire your money the seller dissappears, you get bad product , fake product and your dreams are gone and so is your money. Why? because you never asked is getting such a deal possible , you did not do your research, you didnt think if its this easy why isnt everyone doing it . the truth is its not easy its extremely hard to be successful to find a great source and great deals are very hard to find especialy if they are from china , india , africa , sri lanka etc etc even in the good ole usa , where there is money there is always someone out there praying on inexperienced buyers and desperate people. See if they will take credit cards though most dont some of the best wholesalers that I work with do , the others i deal with are iron clad well reputed corporations.
if you want a start try liquidations.com do all your research on the products and everything else i talked about. many times you can find a deal or two on here. but be warned please please read entire descriptions many items are not guarunteed to work , some have manifest of which work , which dont, this is also an auction site so you will have to bid , but do not think with your heart but your brain , decide how high you are willing to go and this should only be done after you calculate everything ( what the product sells for online or wherever you plan on selling, fees associated, shipping, and if not all products sell or that you will have dump some at the end )
If you have capital in the thousands then contact me for large bulk sales , I might be able to help , sometimes i over buy myself or have to turn down lots and might be willing to sell to you ,
well I hope people really do read this if they are just starting and remember what I say , when i started on here i was as green as everyone else and got myself burned many a times . I wish you all well and hit me up if you ever have a question -
Hi,
If you are looking for volume suppliers from (which is where Alibaba's suppliers come from), you should definitely try Global Sources (http://www.globalsources.com);the number of suppliers here might be fewer than on Alibaba, but usually the quality of suppliers out there is much better.
Also check out this list of wholesalers and drop-shippers list we've compiled and put up at http://www.internet-retailer.com/wholesale_dropship_list.htm
Hope you find the list useful and (it's free to access!) and you have success in finding the right wholesaler.
Best, -
Hi there...
I just advised another newbie on a similar topic. I hope my advice will help you.
Perhaps start with companies like: http://www.wirelessgalaxy.com or http://www.factorydirectcellular.com for wholesale style pricing which will really help our your business. Some that are similar to these sites will dropship, and thats a great way to do business, but possibly not the best idea for just starting.
Take a look around at sites that have products you are interested in selling and make inquiries
about purchasing wholesale.
Steer clear of sites that say "For only $49.95 you get access to a database..."
Go with what really interests you.
Electronics, Phones, Shoes, whatever your fancy is.
Good luck and I wish you much success.
Kind Regards,
Grace

If i were you and wanted a wholesaler i would make sure that you can pickup the goods. There should be no reason why you can't. Wait until someone allows you to do this or you will probably be scammed - as i have before.

Just search google to see if there are any complaints about a company that you are researching!
-
ummm please dont take advice of people like window of fashion in my opinion its not a good idea
check out

also there is much more to something than to look up something on google if you are doing that than you might as well be burning your money cause , that is the dumbest thing i have heard in a long time.
everything has to do with research,
one of my best suppliers i researched for 4 months
before i decided to send them any of my money
only fools rush in
be cautious
be smart think -
its not dumb! There are tons of people chatting on forums about scams, and that comes up if you search in google.

I heard about a company that actually has suppleirs
that they do a full verification proces on in order to accept them to be listed on their site.
A lot of my customers informed me they found great sources here:
http://www.worldwidebrands.com
Hope it helps.
I know its a subscription but i hear this site is "different"
it goes against what I normally say about pay for list sites...
but at the same time- they seem to not be your typical "word document emailed list"
At least give them a call and find out about their company and how they screen their suppliers.
Regards,
Grace -
World wide brands is a legitimate source. There is one problem with them. Thei main man, Chris Malta is a sincere fellow, and they are the best of the "source suppliers".
But, they have sold many thousands of subscriptions. The places they list are selling the same stuff to thousands of folks all over the internet. So, will you get some possible sources? - Yes!
Will they be anywhere near exclusive? - Absolutely not!
Will you find virtually every product offered on ebay at .99 starting bid? - Good chance!
When you have 20% of the population wanting to get rich selling dropshipped goods on ebay you find that there is little profit to be made by anyone except Chris Malta, eBay and PayPal. It's a great idea, but there are very few that really do well with it.
And it certainly does not happen overnight. -
I agree with your point Pete.
I hope at least the site might be of some value to someone that needs it to just get a jump
in their business path.
Good luck to all!
I remain truly yours,
Grace Kay

The best thing to do is find a niche product. EVERYONE is looking to sell electronics, etc... But you CANNOT compete on eBay. You need to find a niche specialty product and cash-in. If you're going to try and finx xbox or dvd player, etc you're going to find that eBay will have prices LOWER than many wholesalers. It is a sad fact of the trade.

I would have to say that we are 100% legit, and we refurbish our own product and offer warranties.. If it's electronics you are looking for give us a try..
It is a tough business.. essentially you have to build trust with some initial sales, but it's those initial sales that are difficult to accomplish.. I sell most of my big orders to a few dozen buyers that I have developed a relationship with..
If you are interested in electronics let me know what you are looking for..You are welcome to come down to our warehouse etc. (located in delaware)

DH, DBL, Ingram Micro, Wynit, TechData, Azerty, Synnex, are some of the larger electronics wholesale supplier programs that dropship. You can also use many of the smaller programs that dropship electronics. I have seen some great ones that have 20 products, 200, 2000 or the large ones with 12000 or 20000....it just depends on how many dropship wholesale products your ecommerce website can handle....also...the more products you promote the better you leverage your site traffic, but it also becomes harder to manage a large catalog (price changes, quantity changes, out of stock, etc) without paying careful attention to the inventory changes at your supplier.

99% of the electronic wholesalers are scammers...
to see is to believe~~~ -
nailsquare wrote:99% of the electronic wholesalers are scammers...

Well...I would say a lot of them are scamers. However, the programs listed above in my post are some of the largests and most trusted programs around for electronics. They are not the only ones, but they are all great options.
One thing with the scammer sites is they often tend to push the Xboxes, Ipods, and other very hot items of the moment on their main page and as part of their program. These products all have MAP which means there is a minimum price that they can be sold at, and it means these products make very low profits for the store owner. However, they are the products that really catch the eye of the new ecommerce customer who is not as familiar with MAP issues and will be happy to pay money every month to just have access to their list or sell their products while they use the real dropship programs to process their orders. -
Also be careful of the middlemen that appear to make themselves out as wholesalers.
True wholesalers do not need to advertise everywhere as they already have reliable accounts purchasing from them on a continual basis as compared to middlemen who act as a retail site and advertise all over the Internet and fool you into thinking you're getting wholesale prices. -
You can find real suppliers by searching on the internet with real research, but yes…it is probably a safe bet that if you found the wholesale program through a google ad or affiliate link it is probably not worth your time. When you click Google Ads you will find people selling lists, affiliate programs, dropship “secrets†lists, loaded turnkey stores, and all of the sites that pretend to be a real program but markup the shipping and prices to make money on your hard work.
Sometimes it feels like the wholesale product dropship programs make it a test that they will only work with people that work hard enough to find them
Tradeshows and the WWB list are always good places to start. And....you do not have to live near a show or have the money to go to a show to find the programs. You can find ways to search online to see which vendors were at the tradeshow this year or in past years. -
I would say get out there in the real world and meet people...go to exhibits where wholesalers meet retailers.
I have couple of websites, if you PM me ill give you. -
See, here is an example of what I mean.
We try to send people to attend the shows, so I saw this one today:
http://www.cesweb.org/default.asp
I also tell members to find these types of tradeshow posts and details. Then all you need to do is look through the list of participants and search for who is going. As noted above in my earlier post, here is one of the quality programs that will attend.

Yes, it is better to meet firms and contacts in person, but if you cannot make it to the shows or you cannot afford the cost, you can still learn a great deal about who you should work with..........for free.
