Help! Chargeback Issue From Hades

I'm so mad right now I could scream. I sold a huge lot of jeans to a customer in November. She paid via Paypal, I shipped to a confirmed address via USPS with delivery confirmation. I've since had correspondence with this women who proclaims that out of the 20 pairs, one was slightly different and she wanted a refund for them. I indicated, no problem- send them back and I'll refund. She never did. I received a chargeback today from paypal for $960 for NON-RECEIPT. I can prove delivery via USPS.com- and via her emails stating she has received the package- what is going to happen now! I responded to the claim through paypal with the tracking number, and emailed their chargeback dept. with the other part but my paypal account was at zero, and now is at neg. $960 - I could cry right now!!!!
Somebody please tell me I'm not screwed!

Let me clarify, she demanded a refund for the one pair that was different- not for the entire shipment!

paypal requires signature confirmation for products over 150 bucks
i belive your balance would stay that way unless you add funds.
Sorry -
Paypal will check the tracking number and if UPS confirm it was delivered thay should refund you the money which is on hold.
It may also be worth sending all your correspondence to paypal. Call them and get a contact/fax. This is not guaranteed as then never respond!!!!
Good luck! -
Well, the more I read- the more I realize how absolutely screwed I am. I did not have a signature confirmation- I had a delivery confirmation (no signature). USPS.com shows the item delivered on the 12th, however- she can state that it deliver to her, although she's stated via email that the items were rec'd.
So, I guess my option is to threaten her with an internet fraud complaint, and a mail fraud complaint - how one goes about doing this I have no idea.
Can anyone give me any ideas on how to eloquently let her know via email that I'm serious about recouping my money for this dishonest transaction? Or is it even worth it. I do not have $1000 to transfer into this account, so what now! -
I would also recommend calling paypal to explain that you have the tracking number and have the correspondence. I would also not take no for an answer from a paypal customer service rep. Through experience with paypal, I learned you need to demand to speak to a supervisor to get your problem straightened out. I did this and even though the customer service rep told me my demand could not be met, I kept insisting to speak to their supervisor. Lo and behold the supervisor was able to fix the problem right away. Paypal customer service really sucks, the regular reps either don't know much or can't do much to help, but a supervisor/manager should be able to help.

The reason why paypal needs signature for larger $ items is that it can be left at doorstep, which confirms delivery, but not necessarily mean that the person rec'd.
Your only shot is of course that you have correspondance from the buyer saying she rec'd it
However if your account is negative it is not really paypals issue, paypal will not refund a buyer with their funds. Your buyer filed a credit card chargeback which threw your account into the negative. You would need to contact the buyers cc somehow, or have paypal do it with eveidence of buyer receiving. I however feel it may be too late
Good luck -
The funds are held until the dispute is settled, so when you settle (ie. Paypal are happy with your paperwork) they will re-credit the value back.

boy oh boy what a mess. I emailed the buyer- threatened lawsuits and what not based on the history of this transaction and low and behold I received a phone call. Husband/wife couple, he was very nice on the phone and explained their position for doin the chargeback. Anyway- he cancelled the chargeback through paypal, however- paypal will not redirect the funds back into my account until the card company he used and filed the chargeback through sends an affidavit that he did in fact cancel the claim and pay the original amount. The catch- he received his refund after finling the chargeback and cancelled the card...
SO- paypal is pretty sure that they won't receive an affidavit of cancellation because he cancelled his account, so his only choice is to redirect the payment BACK into my paypal account. Good grief- what a mess! -
At least the buyer is willing to help sort it out, the majority just let it ride unfortunately..

Just wondering if you got this resolved-
I have an issue with a chargeback right now. A customer purchased a coat on my website and paid via credit card. They waited over a month and then said it doesn't fit and wants to return it. I advised they were past 30 days (return policy is 2 weeks), and I would not accept the return. Well, they filed a chargeback through their credit card and now paypal is holding almost $200 of my funds.
If the chargeback gets settled in their favor, could I report them for theft to their local police department?
I have proof the item was delivered so they end up with an expensive coat and their money back. This just isn't fair!
Anybody have any suggestions? -
I sent an item to a customer which was valued at $65. Delivery conf shows item was delivered. The buyer filed a PAYPAL claim to $65 claiming non-receipt. So... After putting the $65 on hold in my account, I submitted the tracking information. After several days, I got an email stating that I won the case and they returned the money. I thought that was the end of it.... Well... The person then called their credit card company and did a chargeback. Paypal AGAIN held the funds and I had to resubmit the tracking information which clearly shows the item was delivered. Now I am sure I will not get it back but we'll wait and see.
What is sad is that I made sure to comply with Paypal's seller protection policy yet they still take the funds. They had already ruled in my favor the first time. They claim they will make an attempt to try and fight the credit card company on the chargeback. -
In my experience PayPal has never successfully reversed a chargeback for me.
I'm pretty sure they don't even try, becasue like you, I had all the proof anyone would need. -
same.. im 0-3

Hey ClosetCouture,
I can feel for ya, I've dealt with a few charge backs myself and its always a headache to be sure. From my experience, 99% of the people who do that are fooking crooks!!!
I was selling some apparel at a vendor show and got charged backed for over $500 worth of merchandise. I had a signed ticket and everything but that fooking cc company sided with the buyer.
They dont want to !@#$ off the card holder and lose their business. I found out later that there was a cc scam going on that took several vendors by suprise. Some crooks were buying a item and then five mintues later buying the exact samething from the same vendor and then telling their cc company that the vendor double charged them for only one item so they could get a credit. In this line of work your always going to get screwed a few times a year no matter what you do. Just write it off your taxes as a lost and move on, thats what the big retail stores do.

Hi Sierra,
Wow! I never would have thought of that double charge trick. Really hard to defend that one. Just goes to show you that, just like how wonderful our parents got when we got older (especially about drugs, alcohol and sex), we're never going to be on top of the new scams the newbies are creating until it's too late. It's great to have places like this to post the latest scams/frauds to keep others from being defrauded.
And I really think that, yes, like you said, you do have to write it off and move on, but also that it is up to each of us to provide as much documentation to legal agencies (e.g. an IC3) and the cc company against the scammer so as the next time it happens perhaps his cc company will see a trend. If PayPal were my company and I was truly working for the seller, the first question I'd ask is "how many chargebacks does this person issue per month?" -
Basically when it comes down to it, when you deal with $$$ you'll get screwed somewhere, somehow down the road.
Paypal is a joke, anyone that doubts that is a nut and just hasn't been on the road long enough.
You can follow rules to the T, it doesn't matter.
In the end, most would be broke or working a 9-5 without paypal.
You win some, you lose some. Just make sure you keep it balanced in your favor
Don't sell high risk items if your making a small profit and can't afford to get screwed or have your moeny held by paypal for months and months.
Simple... -
OMG! Paypal actually reversed a buyer's chargeback on my account. I can't believe it!! I think i'm going to have a heart attack.

I personally have closed my account w/Pay pal due to "spam" "fisher sites" and someone actiually got into my account and did damage.I would never accept pay pal on my site due to these situations and i refuse to pay with pay pal as well.I dont care how much i want an item,if they only accept pay pal-its my tough luck i guess and they miss out on a good customer.
Pay pal/ebay are not in my future lol
