Importing Branded Clothing

Hello guys. I have found what seems to be a very interesting clothing supplier from other country and he seems to be dealing with authentic stuff. He has great prices, however he requires pretty high minimums (around 2000 pieces). I have read tons of stories about problems with customs when importing and im afraid that customs takes my goods or mutilates them. What kind of paperwork i need to have in order to avoid problems with customs? it also depends on the brand i am importing? what other things should i consider before placing the order? any help will be very very appreciated.

Make sure to use credit cards. If you wire the money and customs takes your inventory, you're screwed. I guess you can use an escrow service. Make sure the escrow service is legit too.

thank you for your answer. They would only take wire transfer or L/C so i cant use CC.
IF the market is invaded by asian fake products, there must be a way to pass authentic items, what i have been offered is Abercrombie and Hollister, and i wonder if anybody on this board has had experience importing large amount of these or other major clothing labels.. difficulties really depend on the product itself?, brand name? or it has to do with the hability of my customs broker or any other factors? -
Firts, check out http://www.export911.com/e911/export/export.htm It has a wealth of info...both for exporters and importers. It is 100% free. Has alot of info on Letters of Credit. Lots of stipulations can be added...such as if the items are confiscated through no fault of the importer then the L/C is void.
Ideally, tell them they are responsible for all customs clearnace, taxes, tarriffs etc in the US. He then takes care of ALL the paperwork. About 75% will do this and have a US local customs broker. If not, make sure the prices you are paying are LOW since you will be paying taxes and getting your own customs broker. You simply MUST get a customs broker if the supplier is not taking care of it on this end. Sounds scarry and complicated...but it isn't. I use a good one Express Air Freight Atlanta...they have offices all over. Email sharon@expressairfreightatl.com VERY friendly and will answer questions.
I have imported thousands (and thousands) of items of Brand Name apparel and never had a single problem. -
Do not use a Western Union for such a transaction. Sounds like way too much money for such a transaction..hence, alot of risk. Escrow company is OK...good idea....
Have you checked out this company? How do you knwo that they have legit product? Have you contacted other US customers to ask them to vouch for the product authenticity? Ask yourself...how can they sell to you? Most of those companies require authorized distributors..so how are you on the list? And...why not call AF and ask them if this product is legit to buy? IF it is...why can't you ask them the question?
As soon as you said China..as the source of the product...red flags go up. So much corruption there. Just be careful.
I would suggest the escrow company..so that you can pay more for them to import to the USA and deal with customs.
Your escrow releases money when broker has cleared US Customs, then your broker will release the container to buyer. -
