Doing ebay, wholesale, online etc. Just wondering if anyone think it's possible to make 6 figures doing this part time? I'm talking about for a college kid spending 20 or so hours/week. I know it's difficult to even make that doing it full time, let alone part time. So I was wondering what you guys think? Or if anyone has actually achieve that mark doing it part time (much props to you by the way) and can provide some incites. And what needs to be done to reach that point (if it's even possible).

    Thanks for your responses.

I think you need to be a little more specific.
What are you looking at doing? Wholesaling? Retail? Ebay?
Either way I doubt you will find someone working 20 hours a week making 6 figures. Real money in just about any industry takes hard work, and long hours. If someone is making that kind of money part time, please tell us all so we can quit our real jobs, work 1/2 has much and watch the money roll in.

imo it is possible. between my wife and i, maybe 3 hours a day every day, sometimes less though, or sometimes we go a day without doing anything at all... we should be just in the 6 figure range this year. in 06 though, i'm looking to expand my business. probably going to take a home equity line out and start something bigger.

    Xtreme,

Do you sell exclusively on eBay or are you running your own website as well?

Yea, I'm in the same boat as you.

Just wondering, if you don't mind, what's your ebay ID and what kind of stuff do you sell? How long have you been doing this, and what would you recommend if someone is to sell huge volume on ebay and would like to expand?

    Thanks

It's possible, sure -- you just have to find the right product to sell. That's the hardest part IMO. Ebay is FLOODED with sellers... for example, if you were a good mechanic and could flip through want-ads locally and buy broken cars and fix them then sell them on ebay -- I could see someone making substantial money.

I think it IS all about product and having the right connections. There is a local car dealer (I bought one through ebay after finding out they were local) who does a nice business:

They buy nothing but new car trade-ins from a couple local luxury car dealers. What a sweet deal they have -- which started as a bet for them. Their business thrives, service is great and their products ROCK. These guys have an item that everyone wants -- luxury cars. He sold 7 cars the day I bought mine. The business is run by Val, his wife and his mechanics who do service on the cars as needed.

Find the sweet spot, and you are golden!

    hi there,
I agree that making 6 figures selling online is possible. I have clients from EBAY, Yahoo Store and they are selling well and one of them is even making 1 million per year from the sales on Yahoo Stores. I really think that their success factors is depends on the sources of the products, customer service and online marketing efforts. Of course, I think you will have to start something full time and once it is running okay, you can do part time.
    All the best.

    Best regards,

    It is 100% possible.

I'll be honest, I devote maybe 5 hours a week to eBay - which hasn't made me 6 figs. Were I to expand and work about 15-20hrs/week it would easily be within grasp.

The biggest thing is to keep going, keep selling, keep finding products, keep streamlining, etc... With time and willingness to learn anyone can do it.

While people are trying to reach the ultimate goal of making 6 figures or more, I read all about supply, supply, supply. Now, as someone who is struggling to find a supply with a good price, but no minimum, I find that 6 figure dream being pulled further and further away from me. part of me thinks that I would make a profit no matter what by breaking into people's homes and selling their personal items. On a personal note, I don't do that, though it would be profit. Take for example, the fact that I would love nothing more than to purchase five or six XBox 360's. I cannot find anyone that will sell such a minimal quantity to me for a good price. Chances are, the people that are getting them will make a profit regardless. If I could buy five of them, and turn them for a good profit, I wold go right back and buy more, until I have met my goal. "It takes money to make money". Unfortunately, I do not know how many people in these forums started out by dropping $100,000 on electronics and then selling them that night. I want to start big, but the capital is non-exsistent. Therefore, I must start small, and work my way up like every other person in the business. But where are the people that made it, and are willing to help people like us make it too?

Maybe that was just a rant, I don't know. Oh, and what does "IMO" stand for? Thank you

Starting small isn't necessarily that bad. I know of many who have started with $15,000 or more and lost most of it due to bad buying decisions.

It is the small lessons and practice that really build successful sellers. If you look hard enough, and for a long enough time, bigger deals will begin to show themselves.

As for bigger fish helping out smaller fish... These forums I think are a great example of that.

and "IMO" stands for "In My Opinion"

sometimes you'll see "IMHO" or "In My Humble Opinion"

hey everyone, I just recently stumbled across this forum and thought it to be very informative and everyone to be very helpful so I had to register. This topic of making six figures caught my attention because for the last 7 months or so I've been trying to make some money selling online. I'm sad to say that I haven't had very much luck. I read through this post and see that people are making a substantial amount of money and I'm very curious on how they are doing it. I have several wholesale accounts set up through different distribution channels. I've done hours upon hours of research, I'm able and willing to devote 40 hours of more if that’s what it takes, but I don't need to make six figures. Don't get me wrong that would be great, but I know better. I'm only looking to make between $500-$2000 a month which seems more that achievable. There’s a big long drawn out story to the reason I'm pursuing the online dream that I won't get into now, but needless to say my lively hood depends on the success of this. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm willing to sell pretty much anything. If you need anymore info or history please don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks for taking the time to read this post
