You could try Nova Information Systems for a merchant account or CPS Merchant Services. Both are good companies to work with if you are selling online.

    Sorry, no free lunch.

No one will process your cards for nothing.

Here is the best deal I've found lately -

    FreeAuthorizeNet

It seems you want everything to go your way, with no cost or consequences. Life and business just don't work that way.

Looks like they're a good stable company with no need to keep changing.

Or, they are more concerned with substance than with appearances.

Or, they understand that everything they put up is automatically copyrighted, so there is no need to constantly update the date.

    Or, who knows?

Never said I wanted a free ride....I don't have the money to dish out everytime paypal wants to mess up. I was new to paypal, and did not know that would/could happen. I'm talking about free start up fee's, and I have looked at other site that had that but I wanted to come here and ask before I just jumped.

Here is for whoever said something about paragraphs..I am holding a 5month old and typing w/ one hand..sorry my typing isn't up to Code.

That is fine if I lose 20-40 bucks here and there but Paypal should hold funds from people w/ an unconfirmed address and make sure they are legit. I figured everyone used it, it must catch fraud and stuff fast.

Anyway I'm not a rude person but I took some of you alls comments as just that! Sorry if you took me the wrong way!

When looking for a merchant account you shouldn’t just be looking for price…what is most important is a merchant account provider that is more geared toward the online merchant.
You need to find out how they handle fraud and chargebacks and what you need to do to protect yourself. Some providers do not offer enough protection for the online merchant and to get the added protection, you may pay a little higher rate at first. When dealing online chargebacks and fraud are inevitable no matter how careful you are.

    Pete,

We're now discussing business with them (Mike is our contact), and their terms seem rather encouraging. If it ends up being legit (at a much lower discount rate than the typical 3.3 - 3.5%), we'll certainly introduce it to our existing retailer base.

A shame that CardService doesnt seem to want to match rates.

Thx again for the tip. :)

It all depends on you - How much work you do online determines how successful you will be. I dont think there are hard and fast rules as to which is more lucrative. Certainly if you have your own site, you can sell your items at a much higher price, for greater profit on the other hand you dont have millions of people coming to your site every day. Just throwing up a website will not get you customers, You have to market and promote a site to make it successful. Ebay eliminates the need for marketing but the drawback is you will be selling your items for significantly less on Ebay. Items that I sell routinely sell on my site for $100, I usually sell on Ebay for $50-$60. Then you have take into consideration the Ebay fees and the competing sellers selling similar items. I know of a seller who makes $100,000 per year on Ebay but they put in an enormous amount of time and work. She is basically tied to the computer, She tells me she works approx 12 hrs a day on Ebay. Lots of people throw up a website and think all of a sudden they will be making lots of money but that is rarely the case. The most important thing is marketing and promotion if you want to run your own website. There is lots of info online that you can check out regarding running an ecommerce site. If you cant build it yourself - you can use an online store creator like instantestore

Could you recommend a service similar to PayPal, one where we don't have to set up merchant accounts, etc.?

You can try 2 CheckOut. (2CO) There is a one-time fee of $ 49, I think it is. But then the rates are like a merchant account. I compared with a merchant account I have and over a couple of months there wasn't $ 5.00 difference in total costs.

And I don't think there is a "2CO Sucks" website like there is for PayPal. I've never seen anything negative about them.

FYI, if you intend to go with 2Checkout.com, the osCommerce Shopping Cart (free at http://www.oscommerce.com) supports them as a payment gateway integrated into order checkout. ;)

Before we suggest anything, I think we need to discuss specifics. Why are you done with ebay? What was the problem? As a seller, I feel more secure accepting paypal than credit cards outright. I have found that paypal is much more helpful in handling disputes than my credit card merchant accounts.

Why was your paypal account limited? What happaned? And you mentioned unconfirmed addresses. If you accept credit cards, do you plan on shipping to an address other than the billing address? Or not? If yes, you will have the same problem. If not, there is a way to NOT accept funds from unconfirmed addresses in paypal, isn't there?

I recall having to approve each one that came in until I shut that off.
