It sounds high just for shipping charges. Most likely it is a shipping and handling fee which covers fees, packaging and shipping. You should always find out shipping costs before you make a purchase so you are not overcharged.

Well I imagine the prodct will be shipped to you by ground parcel but it still shouln't take that long. Sending to the UK via Ground Parcel takes 4-6 weeks.

The only thing I could guess is that this person does not actually have the product in stock. They are probably going to order the item once you pay. So when they receive it they will forward it to you. Just a thought though.

Actually The shipping isn't all that high if he uses USPS and sends it priority airmail, but that should't take 4 to 6 weeks. I have to say you picked a bad time to worry about shipping costs , seeing how you already won the auction.

In reality though he may be just trying to save himself aggravation. If this package is coming from another country into Canada, It actually could take two or three weeks just to get through customs. Canada has the slowest customs office in the world, bar none! That is why a lot of ebay sellers won't ship there. I have three packages right now that I shipped priority Airmail on the 14th of may, to three different buyers, and not one has made it to the customer yet. I am seriously debating the wisdom of even selling to Canadians at this point. Because even though you tell them that you will ship the next day, priority airmail, and it should be there within 7 to 10 days, if their Customs people don't hold it forever, and you can't guarantee a delivery time, They all want to blame the seller for the delay.

If this person has shipped to canada before and he has had the same problems I have had, he probably figures 4 to 6 weeks is a safe period, and he won't hear the grief. He doesn't realize how insane that appears to the buyer, he just doesn't want the negative feedback. I think before I went that route, I would just quit shipping there. The aggravation isn't worth the $5 dollars I would make on the deal.

This is also my experience shipping international, too....Unfortunatly it is really costly to ship to Canada and it is annoying because you know the rates and the fuss are from artificial conditions not from geographic distance.

I recommend always discussing shipping in advance when purchasing on ebay. If the seller does not show shipping details then it is imperative to ask. Among other questions, ask how the item will be shipped, when it will be shipped, and from what zip code, and if it is being drop shipped from another source.

You may have to pay for this, but if it is shipped USPS you can ask for delivery confirmation number, or in the case of shipping to Canada, a Certificate of Mailing. That way you know when the item is shipped, and with the delivery confirmation you can track it.

For every package I ship via USPS I include Delivery Confirmation for tracking for my benifit and for the customers, and a Certificate of Mailing for shipments to Canada. The C of M does not provide tracking but I email a pdf file of the certificate so the customer knows when I mailed the item, and the post office will tell me the expected delivery time, which I pass on to the customer.

30 days is the limit, unless you agree in advance to accept a longer delivery time. Once the 30 days, or the agreed on time has passed, then you can cancel and demand a refund.

You can also ask how much handling fee, or drop ship fee is being added onto shipping. You can ask the weight of the package, and then check the shipping cost yourself.

One must expect to pay handling fees, whether it is built into shipping cost or the product sale price. It costs time and money to ship any product. If a seller has to pack up one item, label it and drive it to the post office, stand in line for 30 minutes, then drive back home, that can take up to an hour of the sellers time, plus the driving expense.

Just to clear up a common misconception... Delivery confirmation doesn't really provide tracking. You never know where you item is...when it is supposed to be delivered, or when it was mailed (only the reciept holder knows that). When you go to the USPS wesite and type in the confirmation number...it will say ONLY whether it has been delivered or not. That's it. It is not like FedEx or UPS where your tracking number gives you every detail about your package as it makes it way to you. Now I am not saying that Delivery Confirmation is not useful...it is great b/c when you purchase it for your package and the recipient says they didn't get, and the USPS says it was delivered...well then you kow the buyer is trying to pull a fast one on you. But don't rely on Delivery confirmation to track shipping times or anything like that!!
