Does anybody know how to get a quote for insurance coverage in nj for a business such as gym or weightroom?
Is there a fixed cost and than additional cost per member, or just a fixed cost?

Just contact a company that offers business insurance. If you own a home, you can get discounts if you use the same company. We use AAA for our Homeowners, Auto and Business insurance for our warehouse.
The price varies and for something like a gym or weightroom, it will likely be higher because of more potential liability with injuries, etc.
Your best bet is to shop around. Some companies will highball your quote, but in any regards it's not going to be cheap unfortunately. Credit may play into it as well as you will pay more if you have poor credit and may get heavily discounted if your credit is good
I could go on and on (dont worry, I wont). Just call around and see what they tell you -
Any idea what I'm looking at in terms of monthly payments?
Also would it be wise to get crime insurance along with liability, workers comp, and property insurance? -
Insurance is strictly local. Different areas of the city can have different rates. The distance from a fire house can affect your rates, as can the building construction and even your neighbors. Having a pizza shop or dry cleaners share a wall with you can cost you.
Anything anyone would say here would be no more correct than what you guess on your own, since it would only be a guess.
I personally disagree with db_liquidations' suggestion of using someone who you buy personal insurance from. You might get a discount, but you might find yourself hurting should you need to file a claim.
My experience has been to buy business insurance from professional business insurance brokers, not someone like Allstate, State Farm, etc. The guy who wells you car insurance may be good at that, but those policies are pretty much what kind of dollar amounts do you want and here's how much it costs.
Business insurance has many more variables and is much more complex. You do yourself a favor by going to someone who specilizes in that type of insurance. And generally, the companies that specialize in those kinds of policies have advisors who will come around and make suggestions on how you can limit your liability, prepare you for OSHA inspections, fire inspections, etc. I strongly recommend going with an independent (doesn't sell just one line of insurance) business insurance broker. You can find them the old fashioned way - in the Yellow Pages. -
What pete said may very well be true. Our AA agency here has different specialists that work with us. 1 in homeowners, 1 in auto and 1 in business and they have been great...but I do think what pete said might very well be right with most companies.
