My frustration has boiled over. Is true wholesale possible?

For the past 4months or so, I've been attempting to find products to
resell, that I could purchase at wholesale prices, in large lots. Early
experiences with used products taught me that I'm only interested
in authentic, brand new products. After banging my head against
a concrete slab for what seems like a years worth of fruitless net
searching, I'm wondering if it is even possible to do.

I may be blinded by the horrible experiences I went through of my
first attempt at getting new products at wholesale (Nike shoes), but
I just can't even see straight enough anymore to think this is a
    viable business to get into.

No matter what the product I've looked into (video games, dvds,
diapers, shoes, clothes), I've been unable to contact anyone who
can actually supply me with large amounts of product at prices
that I could resell for a profit.

I see all these powersellers on ebay selling the exact same thing
I want to sell, and I still have no idea where to find the info. I've
been told that I should forget about trying to buy wholesale unless
I'm willing to put out over $100k...well, I'm willing to do just that,
and I still can't find anything.

To pick an example...take Gap clothing. If I were interested in
reselling Gap stuff, where would I go to buy? Gap certainly
isn't going to help me out...so am I supposed to look for the
factory that produces their clothes? If I actually find a factory,
and actually verify that they aren't making counterfeits...do I
have to worry about the legality of anything? (if this seems like
a wonderful question, then you haven't ever dealt with Nike) Is it
even possible to purchase authentic Gap clothing at wholesale
    prices?

Sorry to be rambling and bitchy, but I'm at the end of my sanity. If
anyone has any advice at all...comments, anything...please help!

I'm only interested in reselling name-brand, brand new, authentic
items. Am I looking in the wrong direction?

    Hello Zorak,

I can feel the pain and the frustration  you're going through. I was going through that same problem :( of yours 2 months ago untill I bought an e-Book from a 23 years old Top eBay Seller. It has turned my online business around!

It's weird that I can fail in an online business though I'm a marketing consultant. I've learned that the online business is totally different from the offline. No wonder kids and make thousands of Dollars per month just by putting items in Ebay on auction. i tell you, I saw those products sell like crazy!

    Anyway,

EDIT WE do not allow the sale of lists of books on 411 EDIT

I hope it will open your mind to more opportunities like it did to me. :D

    Warmly,
    Edwin 8)

    Dear supremebeing00,

I have taken the time to edit your post.

The rationale is that we have a norm where we FREELY assist others around here, not try to sell them some book or list.

If you think your book forsale is so valuable, then why don't you share a few things from it.

thanks ahead of time for your cooperation and welcome to the 411 forum.

    Dear hellberg_2,

I'm sorry that I'd post the link on the forum, till I made it seems that I'm seling the book. Well, I have the e-book, I can just distrubute it for free, BUT because of the copyright law, I can't!

Anyway, I will not post any books links or 'make' me sellnig books in this forum again. I'm sorry.

    Dear Zorak,

I've sensed that you have the lack of Online Marketing Skills and you have plenty of negative thought that are slowing you down (I'm not aftering your Person, But I'm concern about your Behavior) My advise is you have to search for many success story and model them, I can't recommmend any e-Book or sites to you since I am not allow to do so. Most of those information are selling pretty well. They don't teach Online Marketers How to ...... OR What to do...... They only teach you the online busines structure and how people react buying online.

Anyway, if you have any questions, email me at edwin@streamyx.com

    Warmly,
    Edwin :o

I'm pretty unimpressed. This is the type of dreck I've been wading
through forever, it seems. I recognize most of your products from
the standard "wholesale" places everyone else uses.

If you want to give me a price on 100 units of your 1/2" 18vlt Milwaukee
cordless hammer/drill (#0524-74) that would be a start:

Otherwise, next time I need to dropship something I've sold for a $.03
profit on ebay, I'll let you know.

Zorak, what you are looking for might be a little unrealistic. Try searching the ASD/AMD directory, many of these wholesalers and manufacturers will sell you quantities at great prices: http://www.wholesale411.com/asd

Hmm. Looks like some promising leads, maybe. One thing I can't
determine from the website...what on earth does "ASD/AMD" stand
    for?

Also, can you talk more about which part of the above is
    unrealistic? thanks...

zorak i understand what you are going through. i myself have been brought up in the retail business so in the past i had access to purchase 'wholesale' items from distributors at buying shows.

now the prices that are charged at the 'buying shows' are considered to be wholesale prices since only registered business can purchase and attend these shows. however if i was to buy products from these shows and try and compete with alot of the ebay powersellers i couldn't do it. distributors import products into north america and raise the price to cover costs and make there own profit. so for you to compete on an equal level you would have to import the product yourself.

if you are a registered business i suggest you attend some trade show because that is where you will find wholesale prices. once you attend a show and find a few good suppliers you won't even need to attend anymore shows. they will come to you.

i've had years of experience in retail and now i have started to import/distribute products myself. (only a few different items so far).

i hope this helps a bit. good luck
