Verifying EIN numbers

    The irs does not give out verification on EIN numbers so therefore when companys request this information for an application, how do they verify it?

    Like a Social Security Number, not for identification purposes.

    The EIN would be used for filing a 1099. Many large companies file a 1099 when they pay money to someone.

    I know Florida and California have a site to verify resale certificates (S&U).
