Looking for Wholesale Sources

I am a new member of this forum and have learned so much from it. I have been doing flea markets for over 20 years and Ebay for the last 4 years and want to move onto other things.

I see over and over that the best way to purchase products for resale is to buy as close to the manufacturer as possible, but, how do I find these sources.

I see many people selling product cheap but they have to still be making a profit or they wouldn't be in business.

What is the best way to find these sources? I am interested in buying wholesale with reasonable minimum orders ie: $500-$2000.

Can anyone give me any information at all.

I really don't know which way to turn. I learned from your forum that most of the lists out there are worthless, and I realize that people don't want to reveal their sources.

I have seen alot of web sites that say wholesale but find it hard to purchase from them to resell either because the minimums are too high (container load) or they will ship 1 to a customer, so they are not really wholesale sources.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated on how to get started.

    Thank you in advance.

    LOL!

Chances are that each of these guys are just middlemen trying to peddle their product... nothing personal against them, everyone's got to make a living. However, I don't think that is what Rich is looking for.

Rich: have you tried sites like Alibaba, BizBB, and Surplus.net?

Finding wholesale sources is difficult but certainly not impossible. Expect to spend MUCH TIME, and perhaps some money in order to find what you are looking for.

There are many levels of wholesalers, beginning with the factories. Most factories will sell direct (as opposed to only through large distributors) and they will have a minimum quantity.

From there one may find several levels of suppliers on down to the small retailer. Level one is the factory who sells a quantity of 50,000 widgets to a level two person who sells 1000 quantity minimum to level three, who may sell 20 quantity minimum to the retailer. One of the levels may drop ship for you.

Two pieces of advice if you are considering dropshipping.

    1. Be extremely careful choosing a dropshipper --- It's YOUR reputation at stake.

    2. Reread number 1 until you completely understand the implications.

You will buy at the level where you can afford to get in. That all depends on your budget and storage capacity, and how long you can afford to carry inventory. Inventory turnover will depend on your sales ability. An inventory turn over of twice a year is good, 4 times a year is excellent.

A constant turnover of everything you buy for resale is a pipe dream. Unless of course you buy one item, sell it, then go buy another.

So where does one begin to find the right wholesale level and source? Easy; get on your computer and start searching, and plan on spending hours, days and months.

You're right; No one is going to share their sources because they have spent the time to find them, and to share them would be to invite competition after they've done the homework.

There are companies who sell lists. Some are better than others, and their prices vary. But one list may very well turn up one name that will put you into a proper direction to find more.

To summarize; there are two ways to find the sources. One is to buy them, and the other is to begin doing the searching on your computer.

I have spent the last 4 months searching, and I'm developing a large list of suppliers. Perhaps within the next year or so I will compile and market a list that will help people find suppliers that fit their needs. Compiling the sources in the proper format will be a major undertaking so that people will be able to find what they want easily, without having to spend days searching through the list.

When I have a marketable product that I can be assured people will like, then I will consider marketing it. Obviously, like everyone else, I'm not willing to freely hand out all the names I've spent months locating.

However, anyone can do the same thing I've done, by setting aside ample time to research, and begin by searching all the major search engines, and following the different paths that one will discover. That is what I did, and is what I am still doing.

I looked through the online catalog, and your Mini RC Race cars are listed at $14.95 wholesale These cars sell on eBay for as little as $6.00 and they are selling at flea markets for $5.00. I had purchased 6 for $6.00 each, just to add some variety to what I was taking to a flea market to sell. When there, I discovered two dealers selling them. One was selling for $6.00. The other was selling for $6.

This statement, "DON'T BE FOOLED BY CHEAP IMITATIONS! THESE CARS ARE OF EXTREMELY HIGH QUALITY WITH AMAZING ATTENTION TO DETAIL" doesn't mean doodly squat to kids who are buying that RC. They are all made in China. The kids are interested in how little it costs, and if it comes with the batteries.

So in order to sell items like this on eBay or flea markets, one needs to be able to buy them under $5, and expect to make a very small profit.

There were a couple of other items in the catalog that appeared to be overpriced, but my purpose is not to evaluate someones wholesale catalog. My only point of this post is to advise people to research a product very carefully before buying at wholesale to sell retail. Know what others are selling it for, and what you can realistically expect to sell it for before buying it.

Don't wait until you put the product up for sale retail to find out that others are selling it for less than you paid for yours. For me it really didn't matter. I had planned to sell them for $7 to draw people to my booth to see the other items. I did sell two of them at $7, and I'll sell the others later.

At wholesale auctions where one may buy pallet loads of a product, the retail price the seller quotes is always someon's pipe dream, and if anyone believes that they're buying a pallet load of $50,000 retail value for $500 they are in for a drastic disappointment.

http://www.liquidation.com is a good auction place to see what is selling in bulk.

Please provide some examples of the products you offer. Do you print the catalog for your company. Or, is it an SMC, or B&F catalog?

I must admit one thing none of these webpages look well-arranged, if you tend to make an webpage do it right!

Mostly of the sites doesnt even explain what they sell, some arent to figure out what is what.

Quite off topic, but i had to get this out.

Hello from http://www.swapselltrade.com after reading many of these posts, you see nothing original but a bunch of people reselling goods that buy from http://www.bnfusa.com, http://www.hotbuy4u.com, http://www.smc.com and through us. Many people claim to be a wholesaler but are in fact resellers who sell from the same suppliers. We also resell goods from these same suppliers in our network but as well we also bring in goods from China direct as we do carry our own products thats not bought stateside. I watch all these people bash one another cause they are resellers and in reality everyone is a reseller and not a wholesaler unless your buying direct from the factories in China. I hope this sheds some light on the food chain. I have no problem in people knowing these sources as many people here are not true wholesale volume buyers. Most people are looking to buy a few hundred dollars worth of product to buy for the flea market boothes or to resell on EBAY and are nothing bigger then that. If your buying needs are larger then what I just described you would personally be on the first flight into Hong Kong to begin sourcing your needs:)

I may be wrong, but, I do believe you are like the rest of us, a bnf reseller also, yes, you may have other items as well, but, you still resell bnf, you are not the main supplier, because, if you were , you would not be posting in a forum, just my 2 cents worth :)
