Hi there, I am new to this list, but have been doing online auctions off and on for 3 years. I am up to ANY suggestions on how to make money from home, where it does NOT cost you a lot.
Anyway, I was wondering if there were any other online payments that were good besides Paypal. I got ripped off from paypal for over 300 dollars, and now I am trying to find a new place to take online payments. Something that is pretty popular or easy to sign up for. Thanks so much in advance and I look forward to being a part of the group!
    Take care to all! :D

"got ripped off" ... elaborate ? Paypal, in my opinion as a seller and a merchant, is safer to use than a straight merchant account. Paypal has seller protection. Merchant accounts don't really provide much protection during a chargeback.

I signed on with Moneybookers and listed it as an payment option for over two years and never had a single user. Not even with good international sales.
I'm not sure why...looks to be a good payment processor.

I've heard of some other big ones such as Neteller and Worldpay. I assume they work very similarly to PayPal. You may also want to check into BidPay.

There is now a new service - Yowcow. http://www.yowcow.com

Seems like a lot of established seller are switching from paypal to yowcow due to its "poor" seller's protection scheme and bad customer service.

Actually I disagree -I have my own merchant acct, I stopped using paypal 2 years ago and I dont miss it one bit. With a merchant account if you submit your proof of delivery just like paypal then you will be fine. However you must use signature confirmation instead of delivery confirmation. With that said, of course if someone uses someone elses credit card fraudlentlyand you ship goods to fraudster, then you will be liable for that amount. But i have had that happen to me with Paypal as well. Unfortunately if you take credit cards whether from Paypal or your own merchant acct there is a risk of fraud. With a merchant account you should apply the same principles as Paypal - ship to the confirmed address only. With a merchant account you can use AVS to check to see if the address given belongs to the card holder. When in doubt I always call the issuing credit card company to see if the info matches the info the customer gave me, I can also have them call the card holder to see if they did in fact make a purchase.

Personally, I much prefer my own merchant acct, I feel like I am truly in business for myself. When I used paypal I felt like I was at their mercy. I dont have to worry about my acct being frozen.

PayPal has definitely got it's bad points and there are some real horror stories from dissatisfied merchants and buyers alike. The really sad thing is that there is no other similar service that is in a position to compete.

StormPay and MoneyBookers have been around a few years now and yet aren't recognized by the majority of online shoppers. Ikobo is another that should be in a position to compete with PayPal but not there yet.

Unless you go with a merchant account (which will cost more, unless you do a sizable volume of sales) then there aren't any other real choices.

I have been recommending that my clients offer a choice of PayPal and one of the others and then encourage buyers to choose 'the other'. In time the competition will be recognized and used more.
