There's an auction site in the Uk that is growing, it's called ebid and can be found here http://www.ebid.co.uk/

It is free to list, quote from ebid site
eBid is totally free to join and we do not charge posting or final sale fees. You will only incur a fee if you opt for a featured category listing or opt to see the underbidders details.

This company seems to be expanding I've bought off it but haven't sold on it yet, I've been keeping an eye on it and the number of auctions are increasing.

Anyway for you guys in USA, ebid is launching a site their too. They are currently giving out free lifetime memberships but they are running out,

    Thanks,
Sounds great I look forward to selling somewhere other than eBay. ioffer.com is goingto be growing also. I think eBay raising their fees
is the catylist needed to get other auction sites going better. If more people start selling on them more people will come. eBay is crooked
100% I file complaints all the time on large sellers I see selling Airsofts
for buy it now for .99 cents and a $29.95 shipping fee. You know how many of the sellers I filed complaints on have their auctions removed?
ZERO....I think these are eBay selling stuff. They are friggen greedy crooks. I welcome some more auctions going after them. I suggest to everyone else who sells to really try other places. Again ioffer.com is growing and very cheap no listing fees just a closing fee. So sign up and try them. The more sellers we can get going to the auction site the more buyers we will get there also....

    Take care everyone..

I don't see why if ebay raises its fee's to sellers, that customers would stop shopping on ebay and move with the sellers to whatever auction site that is only 1/100th of the size of ebay? Some might say that sellers would leave ebay and go somewhere else. Well lets say 15% of the ebay powersellers stop selling on ebay after they jack the fee's. They'll most likely be split up between ioffer, ebid, ubid, yahoo, amazon, overstock, & the others. So in essence, there isn't 1 other auction site where a customer will be able to find everything they need like ebay for a fraction of the retail price of whatever product. The other auction sites might have the same product, but because there is no competition but 2-3 people selling it, the price will be more expensive than ebay.

What most people will say is that with the sellers leaving, the price per product should go up, so that'll turn customers away. But if customers can't find it anywhere else, what'll they do? People like myself like ebay not only for the good prices, but because of the convenience of buying whatever I need from one place. Sort of like walmart lol

As long as ebay doesn't change the way buying items works to make it harder on customers, then I don't see customers leaving ebay. =( my 2 cents.....

I've been an Ebid member for a number of years. I haven't listed much lately as I wasn't get much out of it and Ebay seemed a better option in regards to the amount of stuff sold. Ebay just banned me so I'll be reverting back to Ebid for a while. Hopefully they'll have a load more members which means I'll sell more.

I do believe you can register even if you're not in the UK. I think Ebid announced that they're going to the US about 6 mnths ago but nothing has been done about it!

29.99 is excessive, and I don't know who would pay. I sure wouldn't but if you cut that in half at 15.00 its reasonable for a 5lb box. From east to west coast you'd easily pay $12.00-$13.00 through Usps, plus the price of the box $1-$2, not buying in bluk. As a buyer I use to be appauled at any shipping price over $5.00 until I started selling and losing money on shipping.

I'm sure since gas has been through the roof the last 4 years, this has some factor. Not only has Ebay raised their fees, but the shipping companies have too. This may be the reason you see so many people not using shipping calculators, while using an eye catching tactic such as .99 cents, then make up the rest on shipping. Also this keeps Ebays listing & final value fees at a minimum. Something they don't like and may be part of the reason for the price increase as well.

Personally I can't stand it either. I didn't start it, but if you try to sell a common item at a reasonable price with actual shipping, you'll lose most the time. With common items I use this .99 cent tactic, but I don't get too excessive with shipping. I see far less auctions closing without buyers, than I did the honest way. The end result was a fair price for my product.

On the flip side, without this price jack honestly. Would it be a safe bet to say the two founders of Ebay and their families are set not only for life, but for eternity?!?[/quote]

I am as upset about Ebay's fee increases as everyone else. I am a powerseller and I do Ebay for a living because I have a bad back and cannot work a normal job. This increase in fees makes it increasingly difficult for me to profit on Ebay, something I barely do now after fees are accounted for.

While I think its great that eBid is starting in the US, unless they do some SERIOUS TV advertising and print advertising, it would be very hard to compete on the same level as Ebay. They'd have to do something amazing to attract the buyers and sellers to move there. There are so many copycat sites out there, and for the buyer, Ebay is the one stop shop.

So, Ebay has us between a rock and a hard place....at least until they drive some of us out of business. I expect that next they are going to start charging for the price of a 3, 5, 7 and 10 day listing. If you notice, when you go to submit an auction, it now says "free" next to 3, 5, and 7 days where it never used to. Makes me wonder if soon we'll see something there instead of FREE.

I started selling on ebay two months ago for some extra income and because it seemed like something fun to do. With all the listing fees, paypal fees, final value fees, shipping cost, it's nice to see maybe a 10% profit. Now, with their fees increasing, I wonder if it will even be worth all the effort. I feel like I have two full time jobs and one big mean Ebay boss!

I dont think there will ever be a site that will be able to compete with Ebay, they know this so thats why they can treat us sellers in whatever way they want and raise fees at the drop of the dime. I have been selling online going on 4 years now, This is my only source of income. Ebay used to be my only source of income but I soon realized that this was not the best idea, I started my own website about 9 months ago, I still sell on Ebay but its not my only source of income anymore. I had speculated about doing my own site for years until I did it. I am so glad I did. My site brings in about $5000 in sales a month, my profit is about half of that, but thats with almost no marketing. Alll my customers find my site thru search engines. Not paid search, they find me tru Yahoo,Lycos,Altavista,MSN Search, Etc. For Wwhatever reason I dont get any customers from Google, cant figure why but its cool. I plan to really market the site this year so that I can finally free myself from FeePay. I would suggest to anyone who wants to make a living online not to rely only on Ebay. Use them as a marketing tool. If you have good products, its not hard to convince your Ebay customers to buy directly from your website even if they pay a little more. You cant mention your site on Ebay but once the auction is over, you can always tell your winning bidder about your site, I send out discount coupons for my site with packages sent for auctions. Whenever I answer questions, I include my site. Its amazing to me that with almost no marketing that my site is doing fairly well. Having your own website is a must for anyone doing business online.

Yes Wagglepop shut down. It was hard, fast, and ugly.
I signed up but didn't get around to listing anything. You had to register with a CC. Thank goodness I used a very limited one but there's some folks who are really concerned about fraud and ID theft.

The owner had a hissy fit and shut the site forums down first then the whole site the next day. He gave his reasons on another forum rather then notify his sellers. Very unprofessional anyway you look at it.
Here's the link to his closing speech: http://www.freeauctionscripts.com/commu ... e4049.html

Since this is where and how the whole idea started, I think it's only fitting that it end here as well.

Within hours, I will be closing Wagglepop for good, and forever.

The servers will be shut down, and all drives reformatted, destroying any and all personal data.

No one owes a single penny.

This whole idea started simply because of people, and my faith in them, and my desire to make a difference.

Now, it's people that have left me no other choice but to shut it down.

What started out as an interesting challenge has instead become the most painful, personal few months of my life, and my confidence in what I believed about faith and humanity are shaken and shattered..... perhaps forever.

To those who supported me, I cannot express enough how proud I am of the journey we took together, and how much your support and kind words have meant through the longest of days and nights.

I will be forever grateful, and carry it with me always.

To those who most assuredly have not supported me, or Wagglepop...... Who have day after day, minute by minute done everything possible to destroy the site...... I have but a few words:

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

If I live a hundred more years before I encounter such morally bankrupt miscreants again, it will be a day too soon.

Ultimately, the only eyes that need judge us that count are two: our own, and those of God.

In both regards I am clear as to what I have accomplished, and had worked so very hard for, and in that, I find my only necessary redemption.

I'm looking forward now to walking away from this interesting online experience, away from my computers, away from the judging eyes of anonymity.....and feeling the grass on my feet and the sun on my face again.

I'm going back to the 'real world', where people look you in the eye when they speak to you, where "please" and "thank you" are heard, and where simple decent behavior and effort are appreciated, and rewarded.

    Farewell, and Good Luck.

Rest in Peace, Wagglepop...... We hardly knew ya.

Here's another statement wagglepop's owner made about why he closed it:

In an email to Ecommerce-Guide.com on Wednesday, Romeo issued a brief statement and declined any further questions.

"Due to a combination of DDOS attacks, public disinformation campaigns, and personal harassment, the site is closed, forever. I'd rather not discuss it further. I'm bitterly angry, and done," said Romeo.

Sorry but need some clarification here. I though ebay fees only increased for those people who are using ebay stores?
