Your buyer needs help with his/her English, or "American" as you call it.

    They are asking:

    1) whether they can transfer the money through a bank,

    2) which service you are using to ship the item.

Maybe your customer doesn't speak English, and type the email and ran it through a translator program to send it in English.

I sometimes have this problem too with buyers from France. But after some replys the problem is usually solved.

btw. I could also improve my engl.

If you speak two languages quite well, try to convert. You will sometimes get strange results.

There is nothing wrong if someone doesn't know english properly, people from China / Japan/ Germany / France are normally using translators or use there own style of English.

I will appreciate who encourage these type of people ,though it might be difficult to understand what exactly they mean.

Yeah, such funny ones occur.. :) In the company I worked for we had a customer from windhoek, namibia and he sent emails close to that. We took it as someone's joke first, not very serious. But then there was a really very nice order from him and we earned good money. He used a translator, btw. So it's very nice that people who even don't have a good command of english are still interested in our services.

I can give one advice: as some serious misreadings could happen that might influence your whole deal, try to recommend the person to use more exact words and more figures. Don't feel bad about asking to explaine what he wrote, he'll tell it in other words and maybe next time the translating program will have a better luck. And you'll no way hurt his feelings by asking cos he knows pretty well that he the problem is the language. If the person knows what he wants or is simply serious, he'll make attempts to clarify what he said.

But that one was basicly clear although funny

    Good luck.

Nationality does matter. In some cases, for example, Nigeria is a high risk country for business. I believe, many people in this forum receive following email...
    STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL/URGENT

    From: Mrs. Mariam Abacha
    No 1/13 Sani Close Kano
    Kano- Nigeria.

    My Dear
I am Mrs. Mariam Abacha, the widow of the late Gen. Sanni Abacha
    former
Nigeria Military Head of State who died mysteriously as a result of
    Cardiac
Arrest, Since after my husband's death my family is under restriction
    of
movement and that not withstanding, we are being molested by the
    present
democratic president and our Bank Account both here and abroad are
    being
frozen by the Nigerian Democratic Government Furthermore, my elder son
    was
in detention by the Nigeria Government for more interrogation about my
husband's assets and some vital documents, Following the recent
    discovery
of my husband's Bank Account by the Nigeria Government with Swiss Bank
    in
which the huge sum of US$700 Million and DM450 Million was logged.

I therefore decided to contact you in confidence that I was able to
    move out
the sum ofUS$25.5 Million Dollars through a security company in
    Europe,
which was secretly defaced and is sealed in two Metal boxes for
    security
reasons, I therefore personally, appeal to you Seriously and
    religiously for
your urgent assistance to move this money into your country where I
    believe
    it will be safe since

I cannot leave the country now due to the restriction of movement
    imposed on
the members of my family by the Nigeria Government. Please kindly send
    me your
telephone/fax number and also your full names/address through
    EmailAddress
which I will hand over to my family Lawyer to prepare you documentarily
    to
claim the funds from the security company, However, the money is
    already
with a security company in Europe and as soon as you indicate your
    interest
my Lawyer shall send you the Air-Way Bill of the Luggage and other
    related
documents so that you can proceed to claim the Luggage from the
    security
company, Conclusively, we have agreed to offer you 15% of the total sum
while 80% is to be for me and my family for profitable business
    investment
which you will advice me preferable properties in your country
    subsequent to
my free movement by the Nigeria Government. 5% is mapped out for
    expenses as
your government may demand for tax and it also covers your telephone
    bills
and expenses in the process of withdrawing the boxes from the security
    company.

    Best regards.
