It's unlikely that you'll get one wholesaler who will supply all that you want particularly on the internet, what type of goods are you after? That will help?

If you really want to find an item that bad you can find it through searching wholesale search engines, most of the excellent wholesale offers are made available to B2B sector and not general public. I have spent over 500 hours looking for products, making relationships with vendors and selling merchandise that turned a nice profit. If finding products were easy then everyone would do it and make a killing.

Oddly enough if you find a place selling what you want to sell at an excellent price either
    1. Say you need a carboard box for packing
OR go behind and look at the recycling bin at their cardboard boxes

Most places leave the lables on and you can see where they get their stuff from.

Oddly enough this is the best way I've found besides internet searches (bah) to get goods at the same price as competition.

Yes its underhanded but it does work. Please note that this only works if the place is not HUGE, (best buy gets suppliers that only deal with best buy for example)

    Good Luck

Hi RMay, is it ok to do that ? I mean I can't be arrested for looking in a companies bins !!!!!!

Seriously tho, great idea ! Can you just phone up a distributor and say Hi, can I sell your stuff ?

I am guessing you need VAT no's references and be turning over a lot of money a week before you would be considered a reseller ?

Seriously, how would you approach a wholesaler on the phone and what would you say to him if you did use this method. "hi, I want to sell your products?" Maybe you could just lie and sound reputable by saying "(store owner you jacked box from) refurred me to you" What do you guys think? :)

Hey guys! I think lying isn't the best idea in the first place. That's the point - to find a good trustable supplier/suppliers to work with - will influence on your efficiency after all. If that was so easy as rmay635703 suggested (btw awesome know how  ) there would be no one we can sell stuff to, everyone will be doing it. Don't you think it's not a bit morally incorrect, you are like stepping over some existing supplier.
Will be much more nice if you just found the supplier yourself. At least you won't have a bad feeling about it later, well, maybe somebody wouldn't in any case, but I don't suggest looking for trust with the others.
There are lots of good suppliers even on this forum, just read more closely and you'll find the one/ones for you :)

Hi, I think that if you have the time to plow thru millions of sites then you can come up with some great suppliers, thats what I did and then made my own site of lists, beleive me I have sat here for hours upon hours and the amount of !@#$ sites you have to visit to find a decent one LOL

Try the library and do some serious business research. The big companies that you may want to represent are not looking on the internet for the distribution.

The large companies either have their own marketing and sales department or they have a contract with another company to handle their distribution.

If you want to sell Acme widgets, then find out about the company. Thomas Register would be one place. Research what the minimum requirements are for an initial order. Find the phone number to place order. You need a plan to sell. What stores are you going to call. What are your past successes. "Why should they sell to you?"

Trade Shows. Most are well screened. You may not even get in without a physical building. I used to do 38 shows a year. Once you spend thousands of dollars to show your product, you want to move tonnage. You don't want "bebacks" or "time wasters".

Hey, thanks for all of your useful information, it is really helpful. Just a question though, when you say go to the library and do some surious business research, what exactly do you mean. I think now I need to do a little research on How to do business research at the library. How exactly would I go about finding distrubitors at the library?

The librarians are there to help you in your search. But first you have to decide what it is you want to sell. What is your expertise?

Mostly electronics... mp3 players, headphones, digital cameras. I am also concidering clothing. I've heard the profit margin is higher on clothing.

I never even thought of asking the Librarian, is this the key?

Not all trade shows are high quality. In most, you will pay to join the group that hosts the show. Attendees are qualified. I know a few that you have to send a photo of your storefront with the application. They are not open to the public, and if you are a exhibitor spending 5 figures to appear at the show, you don't want attendees that aren't serious buyers. Most shows are 3-5 days so it is very intense. Lots to process, and in Vegas you have different places to visit. It is also a time to introduce the new products.

Here is the big electronics show. All the big boys will be here.

Leading edge technologies in the spotlight at 2005 CES
The 2005 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the largest annual trade show in North America, returns on January 6 to 9 in three different venues — the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Las Vegas Hilton, and Alexis Park — and will once again showcase the latest technologies in consumer electronics.

The general population does not understand this world. It is a great venue to buy and sell. And needless to say, it separates the men from the boys. Yes, you can google a list of trade shows, but you need to know which are the good ones. Some are just learning experiences that you may say, "I'll never go there again".

Actually it is a buyers market as of recent. The wholesalers usually don't care how to came to know about them but are happy to sell to you (as long as your business meets their requirments, volume, size, etc)
regardless of how you learned of them. I haven't had one ask me yet How I learned about their business, they usually just ask questions about the size of my business and sales volume and the expected size of my order from them and I get information in the mail or fax so I can place an order.

Furthermore like others have suggested the best wholesalers don't waste their time on an internet presence, they do large volumes to specific buyers, so you won't find out about them through standard means.

    Good Luck

things that sell well on ebay etc (if you can get a good supplier) are IPods, DVD's, MP3's (players), Storage Devices, and some clothing....laptops require too much investment to get started..
