Just so you know nothing is Made in the USA.

Assembled in the USA maybe!!! If you get down to the raw materials that make up the parts you use to assemble your products with they most definately have elements that come from over seas. There are almost no products that are 100% made in the USA. Maybe we need a new rating system.
By raw materials I mean inks, metals, plastics, etc. -
That's because we're a nation of consumers, not producers. sad

-
And most companies that produce overseas don't use 100% materials from their country either if your going to get that technical.

-
If you want to comply with Nafta rules you must be that technical.

Can you explain this? What do you mena by rating system?cool2sale wrote:That's because we're a nation of consumers, not producers. sad
We have moved from a producer to a service provider. Sad? Well, for folks tha NEED to be working a factory, yes, that is sad. But there are other businesses you can work for, not just factories. -
Man labour wages are MUCH cheaper in China and Asia...thats why you have most factories in Asia due to cheaper wages...
why pay American $4.50 to sew your shirt when you can a Chinese $1.40...its all about money for these labels, the less to manufacure the more profits for them...
-
How are people going to be able to consume all the goods that are made if they are all out of work? It is really sad that such a great industrial nation has sold alot of its working class out.
-
We have moved from a producer to a service provider.
That's the line we were given when NAFTA was passed. "We're an information society, not a production one." Well, the information jobs are being shipped overseas, too. -
Actually, there are some products that are made entirely in the USA, of American raw materials.
There are potters who dig their own clay and make it into all sorts of items.
There are wood workers who cut their own trees (with a hand saw, no imported gasoline) for making into any number of objects.
There are other artisans who still make things the old fashioned way, from raising animals to tanning the hides and producing articles.
In fact, there are a number of shops which feature nothing but American made arts and crafts. Every item in them can bear the Made in USA of native materials label.
Then there are the dairy farmers, whose cows graze their own good old USA grasses and produce milk that you buy at the markets.
Actually, NAFTA has nothing to do with Made in USA. NAFTA has to with the free movement of goods between Mexico, the US and Canada ONLY.
Here's a link to the real, official source on the Made in USA requirements.

And here's a link to the source of the above link, which will let you see that some major corporations have been made to toe the line.

The fact of the matter is that we are in a global economy, LIKE IT OR NOT. You can rest assured that there are just as many shoe makers and cloth and clothing manufacturers in Europe crying as there are here. This is not China vs USA, it's China becoming the manufacturing center of the entire globe. -

The list goes on and on and on and...
Anyway, this topic is generally OT. -
CXM:
Many banking and brokerage back-office services are outsourced to other countries. In fact, stock analysis and market research is outsourced, too. Re medical, radiological services are outsourced to Australia (e.g., x-ray reading). Even accounting services are outsourced.
Many of the things on your list were low-paying service jobs. Those will always be with us. -

It's a line Americans were given to justify the huge amount of production that has been shipped overseas. Newt Gringrich said, "We don't need those kinds of jobs." Well, he doesn't need them. -

This is true of the UK, what we've had is a shift in a lot of the industries that were heavy employers for traditional working classes e.g.
manufacturing, particularly clothing /knitwear that has been decimated and is now sourced overseas
coalmining repaced by opencast mining and imports alternative fuels, (we're a lot more environmentally inclined that USA as is the most of Europe
) windfarms etc
shipbuilding majority now overseas
These were all big big employers and in many cases no replacements have been found, the unemployment figures soared but now the Govt claims almost rockbttom unemployment figures.
How can they, the Govt. claim this when there are no obvious replacements apart from the increase in service companies like CXM quoted?
Simple they manipulate the figures, exclude this group or that group for such and such a reason, and have loads of people doing training courses that will in my opinion take them nowhere but onto another training course -

Why do you bother with MsPacMan. Of course there are jobs that are outsourced. As pete kinda already said, get over it.mspacman wrote:CXM:

Whatt??? Get outta here! You just argue for the sake of arguing, MPM. Had someone else made that list for your closed, little mind, you'd not have picked and whined and tried to intellectualize it.
You have been defeated because you just look at the extreme dark side and that will get you everytime in more ways than one in this world.
The fact is, jobs are outsource. Job are outsourced here, too. I am sick and tired of disgruntled folks that just complain about everything because they know they will have none of it as it requires hard work, dedication, and a commitment like practically no other. All you did was focus on the lower paying carreers. But my point for making up that list was to run the gammut of things one can do as far as providing services within our own economy and from within our own economy. Not everyone is going to aspire to understand and provide the more professional services but that does not mean you cannot find a carrer in a mainly services-based economy. Get real and then get off your a$$ and go get a job (most likely foodservice).
And then, take your depression-based intellectualizations and shove them for crying out freaking loud. GROW UP!

Besides, this thread seems a little more OT to me than anything else. -
And besides, I am not the foirst to say this, but...
Success has nothing to do with the amount of money you make. It has everything to do with how much whatever you do satisfies you and makes you happy. People that are paid "well" and hate their carrers and lives are far from what a successfull person really is.
If what you do for a living makes you $20K per year but you love your job and do not consioder it a "job", then you are several steps ahead of most people, including millionaires.
I have seen you more than once, MPM, degrading lower incomes. Get a clue and stop bashing people for what they make for it is all they have. If you are not happy flipping burgers, MPM, than go get your GED and live the life you seem to want others to live. -
You have been defeated because you just look at the extreme dark side and that will get you everytime in more ways than one in this world.
No, I am challenging your position that it's "ok" we're not a manufacturing society anymore because we've got service jobs and that makes up for it. Well, the better of those service jobs have proven to be easily outsourced, too. To some extent new job fields will always pop up and take the place of what's gone. But I think when a country loses its capabilities to make things, though, it loses a lot of power.
Re your speech about happiness not equally wealth, now that is off-topic. I don't understand what your point is there. Most people in this forum are here, I imagine, because they'd like to earn more. Are you implying they're all unhappy? -

Dear, bro, sister.
Hoping your are fine ! and say hello to you ,i m a new here!
I know here most of people that come from the USA,but
i m come from china.
I can understand why the USA people think that sadness now,
just because you using chinese goods so much in your life?
I think you should not sadness,we are sadness.
just a joke like this: you are gad, and i m a servicer!
so kindly ,bro, please no sadness. you are great in our heart!!!
I think each country have their own life, just like a person.
In china.there are so many peple, has the biggest quantity in the world!!
so we must work ,we must live to producing goods!
The USA ,people, you are so clever, i think you are great! USA .
for example. the chinese sell for the USA in 10 container goods (life goods)
The total price in 1 Container is the same with USA in 1 Container for computer,Car,etc.
that mean:
$10Container =$1 Container.
And chinese.
they produce product year by year! .
they lose more and more materials,
they ose more and more porwer.
and also prouduct more and more garbage!!!
and the government lose more and more money to clean the garbage!!!
I think one day ,the chinese will have no power to product.
and that time .we should pay for more and more money from USA,
or milddle east to buy rock oil.
I think at that time ,The USA can contral the oil market, and then sell
that for chinese. oh, my gad, it is so expensive, and chinese will
cost more. lol,it heard really sadness,i hoping our country can
get well then.!
At the last! i hope all the people come from all over the wolrd will live
well in their life!!

You twist everything. Everything!!! You are a thorn in the side of the world and you must be pulled out IMMEDIATELY.
YOU are off-topic, MSM, you were born that way and will always be that way.
You are a complete 24-hour PMS bitch.
I am so fed up with you that I must forget about this forum. You make this place sooooo unpleasant and a waste of people's time.
You make every topic political and you spout your negativity all over this forum. I personally cannot even make a post without you riding my a$$hole on SOMETHING!
I have been here for a very long time and now I have to end it as you simply make this place not even worth visiting anymore. Had i known I would have wasted my time posting over 1,000 posts just to be met with the likes of you.
Good-bye, all
and f*&k you, MsCrackMan. You will get yours soon and when you do, I certainly hope it is slow and painful. Please go eat a bowl of d%$k and kill over, you sorry excuse for a c*&k holster. -
CXM: Do you get so upset this easily IRL? Sheesh. Take a Prozac.
-
"take a prozac"??!! Being antagonistic and then pretending to not know why someone gets riled up is so arrogant and unproductive.
Your known for playing devil's advocate even when the issue doesn't warrant a flip side argument and it gets boring to have to constantly read your "what if" type opinions.
Then you criticize everyone else in such an arrogant manner, again it's just getting boring and predictable, yet aggravating.
You arrogantly parade yourself on this board trying to appear like your so successful and educated, I even think you try to portray wit. Believe me, you're the only one laughing when you put LOL constantly in your posts. You're probably the only one that even remotely thinks you're entertaining at all.
Try to be at least productive in your posts and less condemning and antagonistic. I am personally offended by half of your posts and tire of reading your consistant belittling remarks.
At least CXM is entertaining when he doesn't agree with someone. You're just boring and predictable. LOL LOL
CXM, I hope you're joking about leaving. You're right, the 1000+ post you've put in, many are helpful and insightful and keep this forum entertaining! I for one would hate to see you leave! Especially because then Adigahole aka mspacman may start posting more. -
You arrogantly parade yourself on this board trying to appear like your so successful and educated, I even think you try to portray wit.
As opposed to you, who consistently looks like a dull-witted moron. No pretense at all. I bet you even play one on TV. LOL -
Chill OUT
I think really in general the way things are going - everybody is looking to for areas to cut and save money right?
So there all these things are considered - retrenchment, location, cheaper materials, cheaper labour, privatisation, outsourcing.
Its all about maximizing profit.
Hence Globalisation.
This debate has gone on for years and activists have been fighting against corporations like NIKE to stop abusing the cheap labour found overseas.
Progress is slow - it's difficult to fight such a huge well established industry.
I think there is very few items 'MADE IN USA" now but some companies keep all thier labour and manufacturing in the USA. It's not right to say nothing is made in the USA anymore.
And i agree most likely imported materials and assembled in the USA.
This topic has really hit a sore spot.
Different people have different opinions.
It doesnt' mean you need to be offensive about it or take offence to it.
Theres really no need for all this name calling - abuse each other in a private message
-
I move we ajourn this meeting.....
