Manufacturer Question?

Hello Everyone,
i've just started a small home business and have been doing alot of research as far as where to get my product from. Im sure of what I want to sell and know that i can be successful doing it. i've been emailing manufacturers and have found two whom which I am very interested in carrying their products. I am very happy with their minimums to buy, but not so happy with the prices they offer. I figured that if i cut wholesale out of the picture and went strait to the source, I would get the prices that I want. When I shop Ebay and other websites on the internet I find that they are not that far from what these manufacturers are asking. I would like to profit at least 40% off a sale, Is this too much to ask? Are these prices set in stone? My question is how are these websites and ebayers selling these products for so close to the manufacturers price? Any advice I could get on this matter would be great. I am selling car audio by the way and this would be my first purchase. -
First of all..Car Audio is one of the hardest product to market on ebay if this is your first time selling! Too many people are competing with eachother which makes it hard to make a big profit....
If you are going to cut out the middle man (broker), and go straight to the source, the prices might sound good but be prepared to pay for higher minimums.
Im not to famailiar with selling car audio on ebay, but when I first started my business I too wanted to sell Car Audio products, but found that ebay power sellers were too hard to compete with. I hardly believe you will make a 40% profit from selling Car Audio products on ebay!
But Wish You All The Luck!

A suggestion I have is to diversify your selling location. Try selling at other sites along with selling at ebay (especially free sites). You get extra exposure for your product and since some sites charge nothing for advertising, you've nothing to lose. Check out http://www.craigslist.org and http://www.buysellcommunity.com. This way, if you can't get a 40% profit margin, at least your possible higher volume of sales will bring in higher revenue.

Newbie,
It does not serve you best to enter into a martketplace where product is flooded unless you are importing direct (In which case, you would have to spend a lot of $$ to get product and have a warehouse to stock merch) or recieve an exclusive contract from a chain or dept store to resell all of their closeouts, shelf pulls and returns (you would still need a warehouse) You can always look into being a broker for one of these chains or larhe closeout comapnies to get your feet wet....Best of luck!! -
so what are some markets that are not flooded?

I can think of a few product markets that are not flooded...try selling the following:
a. Jumbo jets
b. Nuclear reactors
c. Military technology
d. Submarines
e. Etc.

Also a tip on eBay you will see MANY powersellers selling a product at way below cost, so unbelieveably cheap, then you go to shipping and it is like $39 to ship one speaker, or $89 to ship a box. And you think "who would ever pay this." Hmm.. only THOUSANDS of buyers, look at there feedback, fast shipping, great prices (well no kidding you paid $18 for your speaker box, but $69 for shipping) A lot of buyers think hey have a good deal if the product price is lower.
