I was planning on purchasing pens that have my business name, url, and logo on them. I would distribute then to every customer. I think this would be a good idea for a way to be remembered and stand out? Anyone do this?

Mints, candy, little packs of Chiclets gum all work a lot better. About the same cost, but make more of an impression.

im pretty partial to the pens!

Food sounds like a good idea. But the problem is that they eat it! And then forget. A pen will last a pretty long time. Plus to only costs about $.45 per and their pretty nice!! Thanks for the ideas though

I love this idea! It seems great, a pen will last long and be constantly used. Would you mind if I use this idea in my marketing?

This is nothing new. Businesses have been using this form of advertising/marketing for over 100 years. The name of the industry is advertising specialties. You are not stealing any ideas from anybody.

I've been doing a lot of thinking about this pen idea. I came to this conclusion. It's going to cost me anywhere from $280 + for nice pens that write nice (maybe a bic roundstick, nothing to fancy). I then thought ... was it going to boost sales $280? I didn't think so. So I decided not to purchase. Anyone every do this? Did it work?

    Thanks,
    Steve

You have to understand that this form of advertising is very effective if done right but it is not so much to gain new customers as it is to retain current ones by exposing your name/logo to them as much as possible.

If you are looking to gain new business or if you are still very small and growing, I do not think it will be a good use of advertising dollars at this time. You would be better off sepnding your money on print advertising the correct publication for your business.

Steve, you don't want to boost sales by $ 280. You need to boost PROFITS by $ 280, just to break even. Big difference. Depending on your markup, this might equal sales of $ 1,000 or so.

Actually, the gum and candy are order generators. If you're going to order supplies from either Co A or Co B and Co B throws in a few goodies, where are you going to buy? After all, it's the boss's money, so who cares if they're twice as expensive.

Here's a site where you can look at all kinds of promotional items. The guy is on several other forums where I go and is a straight shooter. Has everything from pencils to big ballons you see in the air. Check it out, you might find something that interests you.

I work for an ecommerce company. We include a pen in every order and people love em! Sometimes it's the little things that set you apart.

I just purchased some pens with my business name, slogo, and url on them. Their very nice and their bic's so their not going to be !@#$. The way I figured it was that people are always saying you gata separate yourself for the rest of the competition. Since the rest of the competition isn't doing this .... so I figured!! :D

think in terms of your business as well..if you a website then you = internet. If you would like to give away ad specialties to your online customers, give them something to think of you while they are shopping...A mouse pad with your company name, a keyboard brush with your logo, or cd-rom disks with your logo....think outside of the norm, and u will stand out.
