Turning LOOKERS into BUYERS

I know this is a question everyone has. I make every product on my site myself. Does this fact turn them off? Is it my quality of work? My prices? My photos? I get on average 120 - 200 visits a day with no buyers. I need some help. I tried Google Adwords and only got one person that is interested in reselling my jewelry. I'm trying to sell my creations cheaper in bulk and on the retail side. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my site? I'm just a one man band trying to make a living. I offer alot for crafting everything myself.

It is really hard for anyone (even you) to say why you do not make sales. It could be one or mny of a bunch of things.
You said you tried PPC advertising with no success. Look at the keywords you bid on.
Does it turn them off that you have a homemade product? Well, it will if that is not what they were looking for. It is very possible that the keywords you are using as searched on mostly by folks not looking for your product, even though logic may tell you different. I can write a lot on this subject but it would take days and weeks.
The bottom line is that you have to look at you PPC campaigns and figure it out yourself. Could be the words you chose to taget, could be the ads you use, could be the site, could be the pictures, could be the product, and many, many other things.
Good luck.
PS: you say you get 120-200 visits a day. Is this from your PPC advertising. If not, how else are you gettin this traffic. If you paid one of those places that give you so many thousands of visits for so much money, that is one problem. That kind of traffic is not good for ecommerce, business, or sales sites for the most part. -
One more thing. To answer your subject line..."Turning LOOKERS into BUYERS"
You cannot turn lookers into buyers if the lookers were never interested in your product to begin with. They come upon your ad, they visit your site, then they leave becasue soemthing (perhaps your as) led them to believe that they could find something else on your site.
For instance, I sell guitars (retail). The most searches on guitars are from folks that are looking for lessons, not actually to buy a guitar. I found that the word "guitar" (singular) is a terrible keyword to bid on for me because most folks that that use the singular form of the word "guitar" are not looking to buy guitars. Now the plural form "guitars" is a different story. Folks search on the plural are most likely looking to purchase a guitar. I wasted A LOT of money on the singular keywords before I figured this out. -
As someone who sells incense for a living, I'd think you could do right well with your incense bottles.
Other than that, I think you are trying to sell a craft item to the general public, which seldom appreciates the work.
I'm going to suggest that you visit The Crafts Report, a magazine devoted to mainly small producers selling through both wholesale and retail shows, consigning goods, etc. There are many professional crafters who have been in business for years and they will share with you.
Unfortunately, the forum is way down on management's priority list. It's now in it's third life. I knew it was down for some time, didn't even know it was back up until I checked so I could tell you about it.
I used to contribute regularly, though I'm not a crafter. I got mor into the business end of things. But it got to be more than I had time for.
Check it out and mention that pete sent you. (Then duck!)
There are some really fine people there. I think you'll fit right in. Everything from "penturners" to goldsmiths. Go to http://www.craftsreport.com/ and click on Discussion Group.
And good luck! -
Hey Pete...
Speaking of incense bottles... I ran the only site for true "personalized" incense bottle burners for just over a year. I still have a person or two that wants one done but dropped the whole site after my jewelry took off. I made a grand one week and put the whole incense bottle thing back in a corner. Things have slowed down so I offer my services again to the general public. I have a local vendor that orders twice a month. He sells usually 6-14 a week of my incense bottles. I low balled myself but still make good money off of them selling to him. They are expensive to ship in bulk so I really don't offer my incense bottles wholesale. I do sell my trade secrets though. I found the right combination for professional looking incense bottles. Anyway... between making stuff and adding stuff... I've found myself busy lately. Thanks for the info... I'll check it out.
