I have noticed something very unusual. Only 1 in 6 customers makes a purchase. When I see a customer create an account, it appears the software throws them off and they can't log back in. I never have trouble with my site on my home computer, but I have seen this problem on a library computer.

I would like to know how pervassive this problem is.

    The site is http://www.shopgreatvalues.com.

    The login is: test@test.com
    The pswd is: testing

If you could log in, click some links and inform me whether or not you got thrown off, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Josh for being a kind person and giving me this really important feedback.

I downloaded the Mozilla Firefox browser and was stunned to see that the site did not work in that I couldn't even type in the user name or password.

When I setup my website last month, I included an OsCommerce contribution called super no right click. It is a piece of Java Script that basically prohibits using the right mouse button, copying, selecting text, or anything else. I did this to protect my images.

I now see that this same Java Script is the cause of the problem you encountered. I have just removed 100% of this Java Script and see that I can now use Mozilla.

If this destroys Mozilla's functionality, I wonder what it does to older versions of IE and Netscape.

I think I will need to take a trip to the library computers and see if it still throws me off. Hopefully this is the cause of my problems.

I am at the library right now and I am having a terrible time logging into my software as I keep getting thrown off. I also have my OsCommerce admin open at the same time so I see what is going on.

When a user logs into my site (me in this case), the site changes from unsecure to secure mode. The library computer for some reason changes the IP address for IE sessions on an unsecured server to that of a secured server. Once the user logs on, OsCommerce moves the person back to unsecured mode and the library computer changes the IP back.

Since the software tracks all of its users for shopping cart purposes by the IP, it loses the login immediately when the IP address changes which also automatically logs the person out.

As a result, I suspect I might be losing sales from people buying from my site on a public computer.

If anyone else uses OsCommerce (Milestone 2, 2.2), have you experienced this same problem?

I am at the library right now and my site works beautifully. I have fixed all the problems and I am closing this topic. Thanks for all your help. I to express my sincerest gratitude to the OsCommerce forums where other users provided me the exact solution to my problems which I will share here.

I have deleted the test@test.com account.

For those who have OsCommerce, I suggest you do the following to avoid the problems I had with my site over the past month.

    1) Do not install the contribution Super Right Click.
    2) Avoid JavaScript contributions in general as there is no way to tell how it will behave on all browsers or prior versions of specific browsers.
3a) Go to the administrative area.
    3b) Select configurations
    3c) Select sessions
    3d) Use the following settings:

    Force Cookie Use: False
    Check SSL Session ID: False
    Check User Agent: False
    Check IP Address: False
    Prevent Spider Sessions: True
    Recreate Session: True
