Ebay's Unpaid Item Disputes

Ok, you make a listing. It costs .60 - 3.00 depending on what I'm selling. Somone impulsive buyer forgot to check his bank account and decides he can't afford it - doesn't like the shipping - found it cheaper after selecting buy it now - whatever.

Now you're stuck with with paying listing & final value fee's for nothing. 1 or 2 I can live with, but when you get 20 a week, it becomes expensive. I am also semi-new to Ebay and atm have about 100 auction/store listings. These numbers will increase as I grow and find more product to invest in.

I have about 25 unpaid item disputes so far and have yet to recieve credit for any. This process set up by Ebay seems to be 100% in Ebay's favor for them not to refund any money, by giving you a lot of run around. They require you to file a claim. Then a payment reminder is sent to the buyer.

What happens after this? The only option Ebay seems to give after this point is to wait it out for the non-repsonding buyer to reply. He didn't reply to my 6 emails before, why would he now? If buyer doesn't reply after 45 days the the distupe is closed, the buyer doesn't recieve a strike against is account and the seller doesn't recieve final value credit.

It also says somewhere if the buyer is no longer a registered user or lives in a country you will not ship, Ebay will refund fee's immediately.

Am I right about this? I'm spending a lot of time sifting through listings trying to figure out who payed and who didn't and I'm wondering if it's just all a waste of time.

If this is the case, I sure would hate to spend $2 per listing/final value fee x 25 per week = $50 for nothing, just to give to Ebay.. For nothing plus wasted time.

Sign up for ebay's selling manager pro it makes it easy to send non paying bidder alerts and then to file for final value credit's, I always use it and always file if someone doesn't pay, you can do it in bulk, and it's not time consuming.

Unfortunately non paying bidders are a drawback to selling on ebay but don't let them put you off, just make sure you always claim your fees back, the non paying bidder will soon be suspended.

It's also worthwhile to put a note in your auction informing potential buyers of your policy on non payng bidders, I'm sure it works as a deterrent to some but not all.

I wouldn't waste my time filing negative feedback for non payers, the majority of them don't care about their account on ebay and they would simply leave you a negative n return.

It is quite simple. After 7 days, send the second notice. After 10 days send eBay NPB notice. Which eBay sends the buyer a notice Reminder to pay your eBay seller.
    "Dear __
Congratulations on your winning bid for eBay item #0000, Title.  Your seller, XXX, has informed eBay that your payment hasn't been received yet.
If you have already sent payment or intend to pay soon, please contact seller at email address immediately.  Simple misunderstandings are often resolved through direct communication."

If no response in 10 to 14 days, file the NPB final credit and eBay gives you a drop down box and if you have not received any money, you get your credit. No dispute, no more conversation.

Then leave negative feedback. If you are afraid to leave a negative, make it a neutral, but it gives other sellers a heads up if this buyer is bad news.

It is a matter of some bookkeeping. But if you want paid, it is your job. I have sent out NPB notices and that is usually enough to get the payment.

here's what you get on selling manager pro, it does al the tedious tasks no need for you to keep a separate system all you have to do is update those that pay by a method other than paypal (someone pays through paypall your record is updated automatically)

the following is a summary list you are presented with, these are all links into the details of those transactions, you'll see at the bottom under sold listings all the categories you require to chase up non paying bidders. A piece of cake frees up time to do the important things. stress free, grief free and if you want to keep it like that don't leave feedback for a non-paying buyer first. You give him a neutral you'll either get a nothing as he don't know a thing such as feedback exists or you get a negative so he can have a laugh at his "smart comments" sounds a bit synical this

It use to be Non Paying Bidder.
    Now it is--
    Unpaid Item Policy
    http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/unpaid-item.html

Buyers automatically enter into a legally binding contract to purchase the item from the seller if they win the auction-style listing or use the Buy It Now feature. eBay's Unpaid Item policy requires buyers to pay for the items that they commit to purchase. eBay will take action against buyers who do not pay for items they have won.

Sellers can file an Unpaid Item dispute with eBay for each of their items that are purchased but not paid for. eBay will issue a strike on the account of the buyer who does not honor their obligation to pay. If a buyer gets too many strikes in too short a time period, their account will be suspended indefinitely.

Sellers with Unpaid Items are eligible for Final Value Fee credits. Also, if the item is relisted and sells the second time, eBay will refund the Insertion Fee for the relisting. Learn more about how the free relist policy works.

Note: Sellers that falsely report Unpaid Items may have all credits for the time period in question reversed, lose the right to use the Final Value Fee Credit system for a period of time and/or be subject to suspension.

eBay provides an online Unpaid Item process through which the buyer and seller can communicate with each other to resolve Unpaid Item disputes. The seller's eligibility for a Final Value Fee credit depends on the outcome of this process.
About Unpaid Item strikes and suspensions

    * Unpaid Item strikes are issued and tracked by eBay.
    * Unpaid Item strikes are separate from feedback, and do not affect a user's feedback score or member profile.
    * If a buyer is issued an Unpaid Item strike it will automatically be assigned to their account when the seller receives their Final Value Fee credit.
    * If a buyer does not respond in any Unpaid Item process, including mutual agreement not to complete a transaction, they will receive an Unpaid Item strike.

hey that sounds like a good plan. I just checked out Selling manager, instead of pro. Since I'm not having much trouble keeping organized with my current volumn, I thought ot best to just go the budget route, then upgrade to pro later.

    Thanks for info.

I utilize the NPB option as soon as the ebay notification pops up on my SMP that I can file the request. It really does motivate NPB's to pay up. Then if they ignore the first ebay notice I send an email (also an available feature of SMP) demanding payment. Ebay likes you to do this. :? Just this week I had occasion to file an credit request through ebay against an NPB. EBay issued a strike against this persons account which motivated this non-payer to contact me immediately and offer to send payment instantly. Since it was a good sales price for the item I said sure. Once I received payment and it cleared my bank I shipped and removed the strike from the buyers account. They in turn gave me good feedback and I did the same for them. I personally cannot do without SMP. The only drawback issue I have is trying to delete a bad deal from the system. Either I do not know how or SMP won't let you. Anybody have an answer for me on that?

If you are presently selling on ebay and not using SMP. Man! you should be using this program.

Also I agree with Nocturnal about not leaving negative feedback for non payers. It just gets you retaliation feedback. Not worth the effort.

Final thought. Always file NPB alerts as soon as allowed by ebay. Don't let ebay keep one cent of your money. We work too hard at this stuff.

Well, after I upgraded this last night, I didn't have access right away becuase Ebay had to integrate to program to my existing files. Now everything is a complete mess. Out of all the stuff I had marked paid & shipped, most of everything is missing either one of the other or both. i'm really confused. I had a bunch of listings that were already checked out.. paid.. shipped.. pos feedback left for both and removed to save space.. Now it's listed on this system that it's eligable as an unpaid buyer. Wtf..

Even the section where I had already filed an unpaid item dispute for a bunch of buyers, it says I haven't yet. And to make it worse it's all listed by their email, so I recognize almost nothing.

I should have went with a 3rd party program

Ok this doesn't make sense to me:

Sold Listings Past Due $xxx.xx 26

Unpaid and eligible for Unpaid Item reminder
    26

Unpaid Item disputes awaiting your response
    0

Unpaid and eligible for Final Value Fee credit
    0

When I click on the box next to: Unpaid and eligible for Unpaid Item reminder
    26

    example:

    106 name@yahoo.com 1 $x.xx $xx.xx Jul-05
    106 (811486xxxx)

    clicked on above:

    I get this:

Send Unpaid Item Reminder (1 UPI reminder)
Select the appropriate reasons for sending each reminder.

    I selected:
Buyer has not payed for the item & buyer has not responded

    This is what I get:

1 Unpaid Item reminder could not be sent.

This is how all my unpaid listings appear. (Note) the date is july 5th and Ebay has done nothing but allow me to send 1 payment reminder and has given me no other options.

I also read in the rules for unpaid items after 7 days you can file a claim by sending a payment reminder:

I don't see this with any unpaid buyers I filed. It's been weeks for some, and I'm still at sqaur one. 7 days past-> I filed the claim->Ebay contacts them with reminder->I send email's reminding them through contact member-> then nothing... It's like Ebay is waiting out the 60 days to dump them all and give me nothing. I haven't seen 1 listing yet, after 14 days I have any options. they all say:

Unpaid Item disputes awaiting your response -or- Other party's response needed (26)

Other party's response needed (26)? Some of these 26 are after 2-3 weeks.. Am I missing something?

You're best idea is take it that you are starting afresh, Ok if you have to back track a little and fill in those that have paid you do so, this is a long term investment persevere and I'm sure you will be back here singing the praises of SMP.

At the moment your SMP is telling you that you have 26 Unpaid and eligible for Unpaid Item reminder, click on that link and you'll see the 26 individual transactions, the problem you have is that the SMP has not picked up all the info from your previous my ebay (I think, been so long since I used that neandrethal tool) you have 2 choices either go through your payment records and put into SMP those that have paid or start afresh from today's date, if you had a load of info input into your original "my ebay selling" I'm sure there is a button that can revert your SMP to the original, don't know if it will still show all your original info though but might give you the opportunity to get your info bac print it off and then input it into SMP? Then you click aother link to revert back to SMP

I know this sounds a load of work at the moment but I can't stress enough that you should be looking to the future, all non paying bidders will be taken care of from this day on if you persist with SMP, there really is no need to go for an outside 3rd party prog as it won't pick up the payments from paypal.

Don't get stressed out over it within a week you will have moved on from your current sales and you will be in complete control and able to see at a glance the status of every sale you have made from today's date on.

Take time and familiarise yourself with all it offers don't write it off within 24 hours of starting to use it, obviously this will be the most difficult time.

I've used it for about a year and wouldn't swap it, I'd gladly pay double for the work and time it saves.

Now that I've had some time (and believe me I've spent hours) with this new system, I don't see what is so great about it. I would say it does helps a lot being able to find a person's info when you recieve an email or check and need to know their user ID, but the system has a lot of flaws in it imo.

I like the fact it keeps all the info on one page like emails for stages of the sale, feedback, shipping, paid, etc.. But when it comes to getting your money back from Ebay from unpayed buyers, they really try to make you do a lot of work and make you memorize. It seems to not really guild you as well as they promise and it's easy to become confused. What really annoys me is when you click on unpaid & eligable for reminder they list everyone by email (not Ebay ID). So if somone sent you an email saying they're sending your money order, you might click chose "buyer has not responed". Yes you have the info from your email (and you should have remembered 150 of them) and you can look that up, but you become to know everything about who purchased the sale by their ebay ID. It was stamped everywhere until the unpaid process. It's confusing and I think it's intended that way to make you give up and pay.. with the endless clicking of different files and multi-tasking.

It does help you manage a little better, but I don't think it's as great as it's advertised. I'm probly going to keep it though till I find a better solution. I might check out Andale to but I dont think they have a lot of bandwith on their server. At least I get unusual lag their compared to other sites.
