First Trip to Liquidators

I finally visited two reputable liquidators in Los Angeles area after spending last 3 months grabing any knowledge I could get from experts such as cxm322 in this forum. The experience is very discouraging. Most stuff (90%) look like having no resale values. Some look O.K. but you just can't pull the trigger to buy since there no guarantee on the product conditions whatsoever. I understand you have to play by percentage hoping you can salvage enough good stuff from piles of junks. The odd doesn't look good to me. I can see why experienced people quited doing it. But what is the alternative if all you can play with just a couple thousand dollars

Dont even mess with liquidators most are a scam. Most of the products will
not sell and if they do the profit margins are so thin you are wasting your
    time.

Well this is what you get mostly with liquidators... stuff thats best for a dollar store, or its just gonna be shuffled from place to place forever and being a burden on whoever gets it next.

Most major retailers have all the merchandise sent to there own outlet stores or big time liquidator customers (Ross, TJ Max, Marshals, Etc) who get the best stuff. The leftovers are then given to smaller liquidators and this is where junk comes in.

Liquidation is basically a gamble. You are hoping that you can find some thing in the pile of junk that can be resold for a nice profit but there are no guarantees and if you dont find anything you are just stuck with a pile of junk. Like aroma bargains said most of the good liquidatin stock gets sent to the big companies. If your not completely set on liquidation I would stay away. Im sure there are people out there who make money liquidating but from what I see liquidation isnt for the small guy.

    Notsosure,
Since you are from California you should have ample resources for some of the best surplus stuff available, IF you keep searching. There are several dealers out there with good reputations, and you should visit all you can to find your best deal. As always, buy on the spot, load, and leave so you know you're getting exactly the pallets you picked out. I know of about 8-10 companies out there that you can try, so don't give up quite yet. Check them all out before purchasing or giving up. Good luck.

Good for you, but no one said there is no good surplus or dealers out there. Just saying that for th emost part, it is way easier to find a cooked liquidator or broker than it is to find a legit one, especially if you search for them on the interenet.
