I have noticed on ebay that even new factory sealed products being sold are extremly low prices!
New dvd's like The Ring are being sold for $14 plus 3 or 4 dollars shipping, and new Ps2 games like GTA: Vice City for $29 plus 5 dollars shipping.

    Are they buying in bulk?
    Who are their wholesale sources?
I would really like to know how they can sell these products so low.
    Anyone here have any ideas?

    Thanks!

Thank you floatinboats for posting this question. I was just about to post the same thing. My ebay name is namaste-collectibles, and I am just starting out. I have joined several wholesale websites, doing research trying to find wholesale/below wholesale products that can be sold profitably on ebay. And I have found nothing yet.

All I find are no name products, barely any name brands. And when i do find a name brand, such as a website selling some of the newer mini r/c cars for $7.00 a piece (minimum order of one case of 48, I believe it was), which you'd think would be a bargain, I check these mini r/c cars out on ebay, and find that they're not selling for much more than that same $7.00 a piece!

If anyone has any leads on how to find profitable products to sell on ebay, (and I'm willing to sell just about anything that is legal to sell, doesn't matter what it is, clothing, toys, computer games, antiques, home products, anything), please let us know here. I don't want to have to find everything that I'm going to sell on ebay at a garage sale or estate auction. I want to get in business, and stay in business as a successful ebay powerseller.

You know, floatinboats, I think I will post this reply as a separate thread to get it some more exposure. Thanks again for posting it. And I agree, I wish people would not send a post to try to sell us a list on this forum. It's very childish and selfish, not to mention cruel, when we're all doing our best to be honest and fair business people here, and just make a living.

I would like to reply to my own post here.
I have emailed several ebayers with lots of feedback, all powersellers, after looking at some of their auctions.
There was one in particular that I was interested in.
A brand new stereo reciever for several hundred dollars.
It said on the auction that it was "BRAND NEW", so I emailed the ebay member and asked him/her how they were able to sell at such low prices.

To my surprise, they emailed me back. They didn't give me any url's, but they did say that basically it was a refurbished item,
It had come back to the factory opened, but then checked out and resealed again.

    Let the BUYER BEWARE!

I can't belive some people have the audacity to lie to their customers like that.
I mean, if it has been opened before for ANY reason, than it obviously is not brand new now is it?

    People lie on the Internet????
    NO!.........Surely not.......I'm shocked.....horrified.
Oh no. All my illusions have been shattered!!!!!

Excuse me, floating. I'm being sarcastic.
You'd be surprised how many dishonest people there are out there...willing to do/say anything to make a buck.
I, on the other hand....am IMPECCABLY honest!!!

I am having the same problem, I find that even drop shippers can't offer products to me for much less than Powersellers offer them for on Ebay. I did find one site that does have some name brand stuff: http://www.storepower.com. The only deal with this site is it looks like you need a tax id to buy from them. I am sick and tired of people trying to suck money out of your pocket for wonderful wholesale lists too. It gets expensive rather quickly and typically you only find one or two good sites anyway.

Yeah, the only way to make any money in this buisness is to have a taxID (which I am in the process of getting).
That is truly the ONLY way on the net to ever make a profit, and find legit wholesalers and dropshippers.
Yeah, don't ever buy those so-called wholesale lists.
Half the time if you search hard enough on the net, you will find what you are looking for.
Just this past week i must have spent at least 10 hours surfing for legitimate sites that require a taxID, and only found 2 or 3.
But that's better than nothing right?

I also noticed that alot of ebayers/powersellers are selling refurbished items, and just calling them new. But if you check the price they are selling it for, and the price that the warehouse can give it to you for brand new, you know right then that it is refurbished.
I am not going to go down that road.
I want to sell brand new items straight from the factory.
It is damn hard finding the legit ones. :x

Thanks for posting that website storepower.com, cfought27. It looks very good, i've been checking it out.

Floatinboats, could you post those two or three legitimate websites you found? The ones that require a tax id number...It would be extremely helpful.

No...really...I DO try and sell items honestly. If it's refurbished...I SAY its refurbished. If I say it's new...then its new.

Would be interested in seeing those couple of sites, too, floatin.

    Hi All Exodus here,
I am new just registered today :D
I was reading what some of you were saying about storepower.com
    I have been there,done that...........
You can,t compete with the power seller on E-bay with storepower.com.
I too am preplexed on how the power sellers can offer their products so low.The only thing I can figure is there is no middle man. They are getting their products straight from the manufacture.
Check out Thomas Registry.com It is a site that list 1000's of manufactures.Buying from overseas is of course, is where you will get your best prices, but you need a Broker, which is expensive!
Not that anyone has ask :D , but, I have found that used items, that you can pick up at yard sales and auctions sell really well, and the returns /profits are better. I picked up a Princess House vase at a yard sale for 1.00 and resold it on E-bay for 20.00 :D
I know the frustrations you are going through, but don't give up.... Press ahead! My favorite [/quote]The journey of a thousand mile , begin with just one step.............

I have been thinking about problems with items selling to cheap, and I think that one way to make money is to simply break even on the actual item being sold and make your money on shipping. Now this is hard to do unless, you do your homework. I am thinking that small items will work best because they can be shipped cheaply via United States Post Office, unlike UPS which costs at least $5.00 to ship anything other than a flat. Example I can send a 5 ounce package USPS for only $1.04-1.25 anywhere in the continental U.S. You must be VERY CAREFUL about this though, if your item weighs more than 12 OZ you will have to pay for priority mail which is $3.85 or $5.75 depending on location. You just charge $2.50-$3.00 for shipping and make your money that way. Now you would have to deal in volume to make money this way, but it will probably work. I doubt very many buyers would object to $2.50-$3.00 shipping, now they do mind when you have to charge $8.00 to $9.00 shipping with brown (UPS). This may seem cheap, but you have to make your profit somewhere. I am trying this out now, I will let you guys/gals know if it works.

    cfought27,

You can also save money by shipping an item "parcel post". The 12 ounce item that costs $3.75 priority, will cost $2.96 parcel post. Another way I save on shipping cost is to use first class postage. 12 ounces sent first class is $2.90. You have to ask for it though, USPS always tries to stick you with priorty mail. I've found small packages get there just as fast with first class shipping. -Jon-

    Hey Floatin and gang,

Yep another guy just tryin to get his ebay business started and you run into mostly nothing but scamsters, which is a shame. Thank god for this board where a bunch of us that are in the same boat can share thoughts....this is really cool. On another subject, what really ticks me off are these people that tell you to message them about product and then when you do, you get no reply whatsoever. That bothers the heck out of me. Your best bet so far I've noticed is to come up with your own product so to say (whatever you can come across locally). Yard Sales, Rummage Sales etc. ridiculous cheap sales at stores etc. That's what I've done and though I'm not making the money I'd like yet, it'll get there until I can find a reputable wholesaler (which is unfortunately doesnt seem to be too soon), unless somebody knows something I dont know...which could be.

    JayD,

I hope you not making a reference to my post. I do not conduct my ebay sales as a scam artisit. I have been selling low volume on ebay for 3 years and really enjoy it. The point of this forum to help each other out. I was giving my thoughts on shipping prices, and how to save money.

The problem with trying to find products on the internet and then reselling them on ebay, is that EVERYONE has access to those products.

I have realized that it is a waste of time looking to find those products.

There are two ways you can make money on Ebay:

    1. Sell illegal stuff.
    2. Sell used stuff from garage sales and so on.

Now I know there are stores which will give away or sell you stuff they can't get rid of for very cheap.
Also everyone should check store closings/liquidations.

I don't know how much more help I can give you guys, but you are not going to make money (not a significant amount), by buying on the internet and re-selling on ebay.
Think of it this way... if people were selling stuff on the internet, why are they not selling it on ebay? That's epsecially true with people who sell in bulk.
DO NOT BUY BULK. Pallets, etc.. waste of money. Believe me you will only come out even IF slightly making 20-50 of profit.

    So here is the truth:
    1. There is no way to get Free stuff as they say on Ebay
    2. You will not become rich buy buying-reselling on the internet
    3. Buying in bulk is not always a good idea.

    But hey,
    it's your money,
do what you want with it.
Trust me from experience, I have gone from legal-illegal selling on ebay (i wasn't aware that it was illegal), and have just about realized that it is a waste of time!

I have a few other ideas which I have not tried yet... but that is still to see if they would really work.

On the other hand, I know people who have made a lot of money on Ebay. I know people who have quit their job becaue they make more than 200K per year TAX FREE.

    Answer: Car Mechanics.

No one really knows anything about cars, and if you do .. it is an extreme advantage.

Well if you wanta ask me more questions or need help in any way..
    e-mail me

    or reply

    Rob,

Your post has been very helpful. I've been scouring storepower.com for profitable products, and not finding them, so you're right. I'm not going to put anymore energy into it. I'm going to start hitting garage sales, etc this weekend.

HOWEVER! What you said intrigued me about cars and car mechanics. I'd like to know more about this. I know a lot about cars, just did my first timing belt and water pump on one of my own, on my own conviction, and i'm a car buff. Can you explain what you had in mind that I could do with this knowledge, please. It would mean a lot to me. I know you can sell parts, but I think you have something else in mind.

I was going to email you at your address, but it seems this forum disables email addresses...if you click on the email link, it gives you gobbledygook...so, please email me if you see this...i'll write out my email address here so that it's not recognized AS an email address...you can reach me at Namaste845 at aol dot com.

Thanks so much, in advance, for the help. Can't wait to hear what you have to share.

Peace right back at ya! :-)

A friend of mine works with an Ebay powerseller and asked how she gets her items cheap to sell on Ebay. She told him that she regularly attends auctions to purchase things for a fraction of the cost. Most local newspapers have listings of public auctions. I have looked through the adds in my local paper and observed that they often list specific items. I find this particularly helpful since I can't be an expert on everything. I simply pull out the newspaper and look up the items to be auctioned on Ebay and decide what I should pay for them. Unfortunately for me, I work a full time job so its hard for me to get to auctions. A lot of them are held during the work week. The powerseller also told my friend to check auctioneer sites, as they often give a list of upcoming auctions they are doing and sometimes the items to be auctioned off. I hope someone will find this info helpful.

Just stopping by looking for wholesale info on Jacob&co watches and saw this post.
I know how some people are doing it with electronics and computer software. It is not going through middle man of manufacture but just buying at regular stores. If anyone wants to trade some wholesale info, post it in this forum.
