The bid price is over $10,000,000 US

WOw. NOw it's almost 100,000,000.00, only 2 hours after you posted 10 mil.

I heard it 2 times on ABC news on the radio today. Guess you gotta do something different ad strange and you cna make the big bucks and exposure.

I would be surprised if anyone actuall pays him for it.

Very funny action i have to say. Like the line...
"Actually I didn’t think my head would fit in the neck hole, but then I figured she got her Texas cheerleader hair through there I could get my head in it. "

I saw that one too, what would the final value fee be on a sale that big? Boy is he about to get screwed! Did you see how many bid cancelations there were on it, I lost count at over 30! I think people are doing what I call anti-proxy bid. What they do is bid a insane high amount for something to prevent being sniped at the last second. If only one or two other people bid this bid stragey works somewhat, however take two or three people bidding like this and you have a dress for what like a million bucks or something. Gotta love ebay

    Creepyjohn,
Or...non registered buyers are bidding this up with no problem of being suspended for non-payment. This guy is going to freak when his CC card gets charged, and ebay will do it.

I just checked it again, now it's down to 15,000. It was at over half a million earlier. Look at the bid cancelations on it now, there must be over 50 of them, most coming from ebay admistration. That's funny, never seen ebay cancel bids on their own before? Yeah I bet every screw off kid in town has heard about this one and is messing with the auction, and that's why ebay is cancelling the bids, I wouldn't be surprised if they knocked it down to a few thousand.

Oh I'm sure ebay would love to charge him a final value fee for a million, they love to do that. 8)

Just checked and the dress actually only sold for $3,850.00 :?

How can Ebay take it upon themselves to cancel bids on an auction item? Or do you guys think that the guy was in contact with Ebay Administrators and they advised him that the dress couldn't possibly sell for this much and that the final value fee would be astronomical if no one paid for it?

This guy is hilarious non the less and the way his marriage was and ended I think he got alittle pay back....don't you think?

    Just my 2 cents :D

He sounded fairly intelligent, so I'd imagine that he called and or they contacted him about the out of control auction.

Last night at around 11 pm the auction was at 218 bids and $99,999,999.

Its the first auction I'd ever seen roll over! eBay got TON of free publicity on this, so I bet they are working closely with the seller to make it all work out nicely.

His last update was pretty non-funny, so I was thinking eBay put him up to it.

So I'd like to think in my little rainbow colored world...... :P

    heavenrse,
I understand this guy made an appearance on NBC with Al Roker and was offered a contract of some sort with NBC. I don't have the complete details, but it sounds as if this guy hit it rich with this auction, and was an overnight success. Now why can't that happen to someone like you or myself? I'm curious to hear of anymore appearances he makes in the future.
As for the person who bought the gown, I wouldn't be surprised to see one of these programs he'll be appearing on offer the buyer a nice profit for the gown. It was a no lose situation for buyer and seller, which also amused several hundred thousand people.
I nominate you to move up to number one on the crazy ebay auction seeker list. Super job, and you provided me with the best laugh I've had in quite some time.
I just have one more question though. Did you bid on or buy the gown? Perhaps you could work out a stock option on the thing and make a small fortune if you did. LOL
You could only be so lucky!! Good day.

Nope! Although I wanted in on the fun, I'm not THAT curious to see if eBay was going to hold someone liable for 99 mil. With my luck I'd get stuck holding the bag! LOL All my postive feedbacks out the window when they cancelled my account for NP!

Just about anyone could duplicate this auction with just about any item. I could sell photos of my brother as his kids put red lipstick on him. He just happens to be wearing a jester hat at the time. Lovely.....

Write a funny or sob story to go along with it, and taaaa da! You're on with Letterman!

Hmmmm, maybe I can start it out with a made up story about him being on chemo, got in a car accident, and the auction winnings will help pay for his new electric wheelchair that his cancelled insurance won't pay for...... any auction money left over could pay for that expensive seeing eye dog since he was blinded in a tragic lipstick application freak accident (3 year old poked him in the eye with it).....

Check the buyer's me page. He's a DEADBEAT!!! He "claims" he never bid on it and that it was someone paying a joke on him. Another non paying bidder, I bet ebay is going to get some bad pr from this one. Now the seller is out the final value fee still, which I'm sure is still a couple bucks on a item that high.

Also did you see how many people got naru'd for messing with that auction. One of them was an active powerseller, even he got the boot! 8)

It is OK if the winner does not pay. The seller just has to file a NPB request for a refund of the FVF.

I must be missing something here. I wen tto the auction and clicked on the winner's "about me" icon and I found nothing indicating that he is not paying for the auction because he did not bid on it. Can you clarify where you got this info.

I always wonder about these types auctions and whether the winners ever actually end up paying for these items like the ghost in a jar and things like that.

Read it right here from the horse's mouth, look about 1/3 of the way down right under music:

    http://members.ebay.com/ws2/eBayISAPI.d ... absolutsth

Oh yeah sure you can file a npb alert, prepare to hurry up and wait forever to get your money back. That's if ebay ever gets around to it, that and your still out the listing fees, and the relisting fees.

What a deadbeat. I hope the 1.5 million who viewed this auction e-mail him and bury his inbox. You still have to have a password to bid, so his story doesn't hold up. I'm sure the seller isn't complaining, he made some good money just from publicity.

    Heavenrse,
I read your post up there. What good does a seeing eye dog do for a guy that is in an electric wheelchair? What do you do when you run him over and have to run another auction to replace it? Maybe just start with a big a$$ dog like a rotwiler who'll just tear him up if he gets too close.

Either way, still a funny auction and thanks for sharing. My 72 year old dad had the best laugh he has had in months. :D

Well, he only listed for a dollar so his initial listing fees shouldn't be that much.

If he files and NPB alert, he will get his money back. No big deal. may take a while buthe'll get it.

ALl in all, all the publicity he and his auction got was what he really wanted and to hopefully get his X-wife's attention to the fact that he was selling her wedding dress for a couple sporting even tickets and some beer. That probably really got under her skin.
