It is hard to do on ebay as most of the people are selling the lots that they cannot sell individually, or they are selling goods that they can get from somewhere else for cheap and hoping to make the ebay markup on people trying to resell goods. You can buy stuff on ebay to resell, but not to resell on ebay.

If you want to buy something on eBay then resell it on eBay. You'll need to consider the shipping cost (when you buy), the listing fee, final value fee and paypal fee(when you sell). I'll be surprised if you can still have any decent profit. <img src="./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif" alt=":?" title="Confused" />

I buy the items I sell exclusively at thrift stores, estate sales, live auctions and garage sales. It is possible to make money this way (I sell on another ID). You just have to know what to look for. Initially I would just pick up things for cheap that looked like they would sell. If they didn't, eventually I would sell all the items that didn't sell the first round in a large lot to recover the cost. I have a set rule for myself that I won't pay more than $5 on something I don't know anything about. I will also do searches for completed items to see what specific items have sold for in the past. If I pass something up due to the cost at a sale I will oftentimes come home and see what they have been selling for. I have kicked myself a few times but I have breathed a sigh of relief more often. You'll be surprised what your instincts will tell you.

I haunt all the auction houses and scrounge around at all the thrift shops and yard sales, and I am willing to dumpster dive if the situation warrents it, but I was wondering how the rest of you guys buy to sell. I was wondering if it is worthwhile to hunt for bargains during this slow period on ebay and then try to re-sell for higher prices when things pick up in the late fall. I need stuff to sell and a lot of the stuff I have now is flea market stuff and not really suitable for ebay. I wish I had an "in" with a wholesaler but i am still learning and may do something about buying wholesale in the future. Do any of you folks buy to re-sell on ebay?
