Ecommerce Software Reply

Hi everyone!

I just want to get an idea from those of you who have set up their own online stores - what shopping cart/ecommerce software are you using? Has it worked well for you (would you recommend it to others)?

Thanks for your input!

Re: Ecommerce Software [In reply to] Reply

Hi,

I work with an a shopping cart solution called OScommerce on a platform my website provider has customized. The company I use is VSTORE.ca. They offer free basic plans (that's right, no cost) and paid Premium accounts.

I have to say that when I purchased into the premium plan, it did nothing but boost my sales. It allows further customization of your store and also is just plain easier to run than most of the sites out there IMHO.

I fully recommend these people and this software to others. The customer service is GREAT.

There. I've said my piece. lol.

Tips for anyone doing E commerce,

For me Zenchart is the best Shopping cart. Please go to www.templatemonster.com to check it out.

If you are a newbie better start with a free website such as www.myfreewebs.com and after You understand about website think of your mind Online or Off line. Online is more complicated since you need to keep product updated weekly or monthly.

Credit card payment is a must! paypal or if you offer Escrow service use moneybookers.com

Hope that helps.

I sell hosting and as part of my personalized service I do free installs of a number of free and paid for shopping carts. I offer the free carts that come with a cPanel / Fantastico hosting account - Agora Cart, CubeCart, OS Commerce and ZenCart. I will also install other carts as requested.

I don't charge for initial install of the carts, just do that as part of the hosting agreement. I will take the time to discuss what my client is looking to achieve with their shop, what kinds of payment methods they accept, what shipping methods they use, etc. The results usually boil down to two carts - Agora or CubeCart.

OSC and Zen, which is a take-off from OSC are not easy to set up. The time involved is significant. Agora is not simple to set up, it takes some time and folks usually pay me $ 50 to do the initial setup for them. CubeCart is a breeze. In almost every case I do the basic install and turn it over to the new owner and they do the setup themselves.

I might get a question now and again, but for the most part, CubeCart is simply fill in the blanks and you're in business. I've had more than one client selling from their cart the first day.

There is a new $ 129 version of CubeCart, but the free version is still supported. They have an excellent users forum and there are many free and paid for modifications and design templates available,

It is great for worldwide businesses, with many languages, currencies and shipping methods included (plus more available in the mods area).

Forget the free online carts where you run on their server. Forget the carts that place others ads on your cart. Forget all that stuff that tells your prospective customers you are just playing at having a store.

If you are in business, act like a business. Get your own domain name, get your own store and run it like you own it, because you do.

Totally free? No. You need a domain name for under $10 a year. And you need a hosting account for under $ 5 a month. If you can't invest that much in yourself and your business, you're not in business.
