Trademarking is when you buy the rights to a word, symbol, phrase or design that has to do with your business. Many times it gets confused with a copyright or a patent. However, they are totally different. A copyright is purchasing the right to a literary or artistic work. A patent is buying the rights to an invention. So, if your company has a logo design, a symbol or a byline that you want to protect, you would get it trademarked.
