Apparel retailers and wholesalers: though swimsuits will always be a summer essential, you should still give your customers plenty of reasons to purchase this year’s batch. If you have these trends handy, flaunt them – and if you don’t have them, go get them:
One-pieces are making a huge comeback this year, tough modern touches make these suits anything but demure. The hottest pieces with the most coverage will have draping, ruching or paneling, if not lower leg cuts, that recall the retro glamour of the 1950s.

The best of this season’s denim is anything but the basic blue jean. Shapes that have not been seen since the ‘90s are finally making a comeback, while today’s familiar silhouettes are punched up with colors and embellishments:
The boyfriend jean: Fashion and celebrity spotters can probably easily point out by now who is responsible for this fit’s resurgence: Katie Holmes. And she had actually borrowed her pair from husband Tom Cruise, designers have since made enough pairs for women so that sharing is no longer necessary. The modern twists are its narrowly rolled-up cuffs.
The skinny jean: A pair... Read more »

Anyone facing this season’s latest shades may soon be daunted by the plethora of eye-catching trends offered by today’s favorite designers and past fashion inspiration. But when finding the perfect pair, perhaps only one factor truly matters: the customer’s face shape.
Round vs. Square
John Lennon and Jackie O.: two 1960s American icons whose images would not be complete without a pair of statement-making sunglasses. Today, fashion magazines and blogs cannot stop buzzing over the comeback of the different frame shapes those two donned back then, ranging from Mary-Kate Olsen’s round shades spotted at last year’s Sundance Festival to Nina... For spring 2009 and the seasons beyond, fashion designers have sent down the runway what can be cumulated as “depression chic.” The trend pays homage to a time consumers now relate to more than ever, with apparel first popularized around the 1929 stock market crash.
The looks also offer a certain ease for consumers: the fits are looser, the flash has disappeared, and the fashion statements are familiar. Overall, the industry understands that this year’s consumers want to buy pieces that will last them for years.
Women will get to play around with looks that popped up before and after... Read more »

While consumer spending in 2008 was modest, the year’s quintessential handbag was anything but. And now, while retail experts remain uncertain of the economic future, many wholesalers and fashion experts predict that some of the top trends of 2008 are likely to stay strong through the first half of 2009:
The hobo. Alone, its slouchy, worn-in shape could have been looked rather lackadaisical. But when designers constructed them of bold-colored leather and in epic proportions, the bag became a staple. And, very much like those late 19th and early 20th century migratory workers of the same name, women started carrying... Read more »

Las Vegas was recently host to one of the largest trade shows in the wholesale industry. The MAGIC Marketplace is full of the latest clothing and apparel from top designers and brand names. Fashion shows, booths and exhibits are in rich supply and it’s the perfect place to source products for either a brick and mortar or online retail store.
While all the booths received some attention, it was clear that there were a few that everyone clamored to get a glimpse of. Street and urban wear were the belles (okay, booths) of the ball and the following list highlights... Read more »

In order to maximize your profitability during seasonal changes, specifically with the back-to-school season, you need to remove the guesswork. You need to know exactly how the market is going to behave to make the most money.
Predicting the Future
How can you know when the peak sales are going to drop off? You can’t predict the future can you? Of course we can’t predict the future, but we can learn from our past.
Retailers keep track of what happened previous years to know how to effectively sell this year. Managers order enough calculators not only to get them through... Read more »

Part of being successful in business is knowing when to listen for the knock of opportunity. The savviest, and most successful, business owners will be able to detect that knocking even when it is faintest. This means being aware of products that will sell well before others, or at least before the market becomes saturated.
Let’s take a look at how you can figure out which products will be hot or are currently hot in order to take advantage of your chance to sell them.
Research Different Locales
Generally speaking, a product will hit hard in an area with a... Read more »

As 2007 comes to a close, people are scouring the stores, the Internet, and their crazy friend’s craft shop for that perfect Christmas gift. This is the time of the year when sellers become psychically tuned to the state of the world and decide what the hot ticket item is for the year. Filling the requests of millions of holiday shoppers is a big task, but if anybody is capable of making consumers happy, resellers can.
What are the most popular products for the 2007 holiday season? Technology seems to be the key.
If it doesn’t plug up, use batteries... Read more »

Product sourcing is one of the most difficult aspects of running a wholesale business. In order to maximize profit, wholesalers have to provide their customers value and convenience. For seasonal merchandise, this can be a challenge. Demand for it is variable, even with increased interest in holiday memorabilia.
Wholesalers are finding that in order to properly compete with e-commerce sites and online specialty shops, they have to source their products much earlier than in the past. It is true that Christmas comes in July–at least to the wholesaler. It is not uncommon to plan four or five months ahead of... Read more »
