The Ins and Outs of Buying Wholesale Designer Accessories

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

The designer accessories business may look glamorous, but it can be pretty difficult due to many different issues. When you are in this business, your basic goal is to purchase quality and authentic designer accessories for a good price, and then resell them to your customers for a profit. You also have to make sure that you are reselling them for a fair price, because if you’re not, there are a ton of other companies that are. Retailers of designer accessories often find it hard to find suppliers for their products. This happens for a few different reasons.

Famous designers such as Louis Vuitton, Kate Spade, and Coach are extremely choosy about who sells their products. Distributors are hand chosen, and those companies are required to spend huge amounts of money on each order. They are also required to purchase in multiple quantities. Because the products are so exclusive, it makes it virtually impossible to get products like this straight from the designer.

With wholesale purchasing, a company buys "lots" of the product, and the price is cheaper than the products would retail for individually. Normally, companies buy designer accessories that are out of season, items of which too many were made, or closeout items. This is what makes the wholesale suppliers able to sell them at a discounted price. Sometimes companies can find products for up to 80% off the original retail prices.

It is extremely important for a company to know if they are getting authentic products or knock offs. In order to make sure of this, a company must be educated on which wholesale suppliers to purchase from, and they must also be able to recognize attributes and characteristics of authentic designer accessories. There are so many knock offs that are really designed to mimic the designer accessory to perfection. However, no matter how great the knock off, there are usually some signs that will tell the truth about it. Wholesale companies get their products in many different ways. Often, they will purchase products from department store liquidation sales, purchase vintage products, or purchase the accessories directly from the manufacturer. You will find companies who offer to sell you lists of wholesale companies where you can purchase authentic accessories. However, spending money on lists like this isn’t practical. You can get the same sort of information from other sources for free, or you can even find the information yourself on the Internet. It just takes a bit of time and scouring.

Since most people would love to have designer accessories, but a lot of them cannot afford to purchase directly from the designers or distributors, resold accessories are their choice. This makes it easier for people to purchase the products that they want but aren’t able to normally afford.
